Default FMS F4, Comp 224, TR 224 w/3.42?

I will be purchasing a cam very soon. I am hesitant to go over a ~224 or 226 because I will be sticking with my stock 3.42's for a while (will not be able to afford 12 bolt anytime soon). I've heard all the rave about the FMS cams, and I think they will fit my needs very well as my car is not very likely to see the track often. So... how are peoples experiences w/the FMS F4 (226 .575) vs. a comp grind 224 .581 or the TR224? Again, Im looking for the most usable power on the street.

Thanks

the tr224 is a proven all around baseline cam...the futral cams are known for their great flat curves which gives you power everwhere not just peak....also are known to outpower slightly larger cams...so my bet would be go futral however tr224 is a proven great cam...i don't have either so i can't get you personal advice...and why did you post the same thing twice...

Keep your OEM 3.42 (very nice and quite, no gear whine). I ran my 224 duration, 570 lift cam with my OEM 3.42 and it worked OK. Later you could ad a 4" stroke 383 kit and take advantage of the extra low end torque by using 3.42 gear.

Well, if a 224-226 duration cam would work "ok" w/3.42's, is there any cam out there that would work better? For example, would I be faster on the street w/a 224-226 cam with 3.42's or faster on the street with a smaller duration cam w/the 3.42's?

This is F4

This is TR 224
https://ls1tech.com/forums/dynamometer-results-comparisons/246872-400-rwhp-tsp-224r-112-a.html
These are 3 cam overlayed. look at how strong is the TR224 Vs the bigger cams under the curve.

Yes - I've seen the graph overlaying those three cams. Unfortunately, the FMS cam in that graph is the F13, not the F4. I would think the F4 would be stronger down low b/c its smaller duration (226). Can anyone confirm this?

Am I right in thinking I should get a 224-226 duration cam w/stock 3.42's or should I be thinking smaller

With stock heads i would go with a reverse split myself.
OOps I did, Stealth II
224/220, .581/.581 116lsa XER
404rwhp/383rwtq cam only + bolt ons.

I even spray 200 dry on it and I'm in the 10's with a VIG 3200, 3.73:1 rear 10 bolt.

Do not go larger than 224 on the intake side of cam. A 220/224@.050, 110 or 112 LSA, 2 degrees advance ground in, .570 LIFT sounds like a verygood match.

Gollum: Why do you suggest limiting the intake duration to 224? Will that help keep some more grunt in the low end? Also, I thought I would want a cam w/4 degrees of advance ground in - thought that would also help move the power band down a bit???

FWIW, I have the TR224 and a buddy has the FM4, the cars run the same ET and MPH. Both are A4's and are about equally modded.

Dustin: Any sotp difference on the low end between the tr224 or FM4? If they offer similar peak numbers, Id like to get the one w/the better low end torque. Have you seen a dyno graph of your friends car?
