Default Help me trouble shoot my cam swap, please

I'm trying to figure out what might have been done wrong when we swapped cams & springs last weekend.

We used the dot to dot method for setting up the timing chain, the car runs fine, took it to the dyno today, all is not well.

The car is down on power quite abit from where I expected it to be and the peak power is at 5300 rpms & then it starts falling off. I can scan the graph is you need to see it.

Any input on what might be the problem is very welcome!

maybe the cam is too far advanced?i have the same problem, down on power and the peak hp is about 400-500rpms lower than it should be.other than that,it runs great.i installed mine dot to dot,but i didn't degree it,so i'm thinking it was mis ground.if everything else checks out that would be my guess.

If youre running the stock LS1 intake and stock exhaust manifolds then I would say your not too far off your rwhp numbers through an A4 with the setup you have. Headers and an LS6 intake will jump you up to where you think you should be trust me. If you already have the LS6 and headers then something is wrong.

I have Mac mids, LS1 intake. The graph just looks funny to me, aside from the peak hp number. I haven't seen other LS1 dynos fall off like that on the top. The car made 302 rwhp with just a cut out & lid, it didn't fall like that on that dyno.

No way. I ran a 01 LS6 cam with the LS1 intake and almost exact setup from converter to headers and catback. With that setup I dyno'd 321 rwhp unlocked and peaked at 5900 rpms then held it nearly flat to 6500 rpms. His tapers off and looks just like a stock dyno chart.

You need to check the dot-to-dot, probably cam doctor the cam to verify specs and check for false knock and total ignition timing. Also, are you sure they dyno'd the car in 3rd gear?

My next step is check the dot to dot, if that isn't it, pull the cam for cam dr.
Speed Inc is very reliable, they have dynoed my car before, I have no doubts that no error was made in dynoing the car.

I'll bet you're off a tooth. It happens sometimes despite the fact you looked at it 300 times before reassembly. Ask me how I know...

After my install, my cam dyno graph looked exactly like a stock one. Took it apart, reassembled it and it ran completely different. Don't be shocked if it turns out to be off a tooth.

Have you had time to check the install yet? Hopefully it will just be a tooth off & you can get it back on the dyno

ALWAYS degree the cam.... dot-to-dot is proper install, but degreeing the cam is a proper way of finishing off the cam swap...

Well, the chain was installed 1 tooth off. I am glad it was my error to begin with, I didn't want to chase a problem.

Now for the test drive!!!!

The test drive went well, I only got on it once, it definately runs better.

I was pretty sure after talking to everyone that would talk to me and the posts on here that it was the timing chain, makes me feel a little bone headed.

Next stop, the track!!!
