Default Cam: How big for ~430-450rwhp?

Just wondering how big i would have to go and what are some good cams and sites to look for where i can find a cam that will put me in that range and still be a good streetable car. Isn't daily driver but still like to actually drive to places to do some races on the street. Have been looking at the FMS F14 cam but now wondering if that will be enough. Have not yet dyno'ed the car because of lack of time but how it compares to others around here it runs pretty strong and i'd guess around 340 rwhp. Just wondering a cam that will net around a 80 or more rwhp gain.

There is no cam out there that will net you 80 rwhp and still be streetable. If you're at 340 now, you're going to need 90-110 rwhp to hit your goal. Add ported heads and you can have a streetable cam and hit your 430-450 goal.

The closest cam that will accomplish your goal is a Thunder Racing T-Rex, but to get the most out of it, you'll need some VERY comprehensive tuning or you're gong to hate it. Have someone like Geoff at Thunder do a speed density tune for you if you want to make it live on the street. EFI Live is the ****.

Yeah i was looking at ported heads, either that or going with some AFR 225's. Now that i think about it, 410 rwhp would be just fine but where are some links to Trex cams. Like gains and graphs and how much people like them and whatnot. Figuring i'll go with heads a little down the road when the money is there. Where's thunderracing at? I live in missouri.

Goin with 4.10s, rather not go with 4.30s, gotta be able to drive on the streets for street races if i get this stuff done.

I just looked at that page before i checked back in here and looked at the graph and they got 450 hp and 400 tq, would that be rwhp or just to the flywheel? So i'm wondering about what all i shopuld upgrade with getting t rex cam. I'm going with all the upgrades to the comp cam accessories with the package on thunder racing so that stuff should be good. Is it worth it or is the crane stuff just as good? This will be a winter project so i'm trying to get price figures into perspective here.

FM13 and FM Stage II heads with ALL supporting mods gave me 440RWHP, car pulls like a raped ape in any gear.

Just an idea for another combination you may want to look at!

4.30s in a M6 is not as bad as you think.... hell i have 4.10s in my A4 and still get about 215-240 out of a tank of gas and with a 4000 stall....

with the T-rex cam you will want more than 4.10s to make it work "well".... it has a lot of duration and youll have to be above 3900 for it to pull hard....

you might wanna re-think your cam choice if you think 4.30s is bad for a m6.... and drivability wont be great unless you have a great tuner... and being in the state you are i cant think of any "great" tuners.

a higher(numerically) gear will help with the drivability issues.

and dont want to burst your bubble but very few people hit 440 rwhp with cam only.... youll need a 90/90 combo for sure...

and be prepared to spin that thing to atleast 68-6900 to make it work.

and then to be able to launch like you should at the track youll need a lot of chassis and suspension mods and good tires....

i just dont want you to think grab the biggest cam and it will fly....

i used to think that .... about january of this year and was talked into going with a smaller cam..... thank god i did!

Well its between the FM14 cam and the TRex cam so i'm still debating.....i know the cam doesn't matter much without a good tuner to make it respond so i'm looking into that also.

Mine makes 453 with a F13 and 205s. With stock heads, you might be able to make 430 with a 14 or 15. Just ask Allan.

Yes, it's a very sweet street cam but I'm not too sure about low noise. Those XER lobes will be talking to you!

g5x3 on a 112 406rwhp 373rwtq daily driven and very streetable(has surge just like any other medium-large cam at low low rpms), and man DOES IT PULL! Stock heads as well. mods are in sig(and no im not full bolt on ) Doesnt have to be rev'd to death nor do u need to notch the pistons

Edit- oh and for all the people saying "OMFG WOWZORS THE X3 IS HUGE!" its not not even close to a trex, hell not even the x4 is close to the tRex.

Check into the LG motorsporst G5x4. I made 425 with mods in sig. No reason you cant make 440-450 with a good set of heads. With a good tune and gears this cam drove awesome as a dd. It does have some surge around 1500-1700rpms.
