Default Cometic head gaskets.... .040 vs. .045?

I just got my heads cam package in the mail today.

TEA 1.5 5.3 heads milled less than .005
Comp cams 220/224 .581 114lsa +2
Trick flow chromoly hardened pushrods (7.4)
Cometic head gasket .040

I was wondering if this was the right gasket. Most people seem to be using .045. What difference will it make?

Difference will be in SCR (Compression) ~11.34 Vs ~11.49 and in quench, .005 less (~.033)
In any case I would run 93/94 Octane

The compression will be that high???

I wanted 11:1 or less. It's for a daily driver.

We're in Florida so I do get 93 octane.

Would I be better off mailing those back and going with a GM stock gasket? I can get those locally most likely.

you'll be around 11-1 with the GM gaskets ( .54 compressed, .-007 deck height, 61.5 cc chamber)

Ported heads are usualy around 62>63 cc in the chamber
With 93 and a professional tune 11.5 is nothing to worry about. The tighter quench will help reduce detonation. Just run TR6 plugs gapped .035.
Keep the .040

Plugs are something I haven't even thought about. I'm running TR55s right now.

Will those not work?

I just used this http://www.rbracing-rsr.com/compstaticcalc.html to calculate my compression ratio. I just don't know if the numbers I used are all correct.

Bore- 3.898 inches
Stroke- 3.622 inches
Head gasket- .040 inches
Deck Height- -.007 inches
Piston top volume- 0
Combustion chamber- 63cc

I got 11.19 compression. That won't be too bad for a daily driver right?

On a related note..... Here are my flow numbers:

.10 69.1 51.3
.20 140.3 113.9
.30 204.2 174.1
.40 253.0 214.0
.50 290.3 241.4
.55 301.9 251.1
.60 313.4 255.1

I'm pretty happy with them.

Are you worried about PTV clearance, why such a thick HG?

TR6 are 1 step colder, reducing detonation and tighter gap because of increased cylinder pressures so not to blow the spark out and get multiple missfires.
11.5 SCR , .035 gap >> 11.0 SCR .040 gap (those ranges worked very well for me), and if you think Florida is humid/hot, just come for a weekend overhere

I know this is off topic but, would it be worth it to put .040 gaskets with stock 241 heads? Would it make more power? or would it just cause problems? I also have a TSP225 cam. Thanks,

Yes, I used .045 Cometics with my 241's and that is because I could'nt locate .040's in stock anywhere at the time.
This woud raise your compression and improve your quench. (both giving you more power)
Your CR would be ~ 10.68

I got my TSP225 cam with a PRC cam kit and 7.4 chromoly pushrods, would this affect my PTV clearance? and or do I need different lenght pushrods?

It will not affect your PTV (it will reduce it but no issues, still plenty room)
As for the p-rods you'll need 7.40-.014 = 7.36 or 7.35 p-rods(that is assuming you are at optimum lifter preload now), if you are on the loose side, 7.40's would still work.
