Default 98 motor with 52 k miles ?

I have a 98 motor for my 00 SS and was going to stay SI's but was wondering if it would be worth changing to 02 cam and heads or just stay with the 98 cam heads...this motor only has 52k miles.

I believe that the 02 heads are better, but the 98 cam is more agressive. Either way if your going to have to pay for either of these id say get an aftermarket cam because changing the heads and cam is gonna do nothing for you HP wise. Id say if your going to change the internals at least put in a bigger cam and some better heads. As for the LSX intake id say go with an ls6 for now as it will give you good gains and you dont need the lsx yet for your application. If you go with a big cam and heads down the road then the LSX is the way to go. What are your goals for your car BTW (HP/TQ numbers etc...)

Id say then keep the 98 cam as i believe it is more aggressive and get an ls6 and the newer style heads.

What's you goal for the '98? None of your options are cost effective unless the parts and labor are free. And even if everything is free is it worth the effort for 5-15rwhp? At a minimum I'd put in a basic TR 224 cam kit.

If you're set against an aftermarket heads/cam setup, this is the way to go:

So wait that was 11's on a bone stock internal engine? Like cam, heads, everything and no power adder? Was that in a gutted car with all bolt ons and DR's?

nope 11.72 @3437 pounds with driver to meet NMCA rules 11.45 was on a diet weighing about 3300 with driver but 11's are easy even at full weight just do a search.

Oh im not disagreeing I just have never heard of a stock engine car with bolt ons (probably making 330-340 rwhp) at full weight with no aftermarket cam or heads or any power adders running an 11 second pass thats all. Best my buddy has mustered with a TR 224 and stage II 5.3 heads (pushing around 410 rwhp) was low 12 second pass and hes running DR's.

11's is not impossible for a stock internal LS1.

If he is still in the 12's, he needs to sell his car or let someone else drive it. My '98, with just the tr224, ran 12.3 with a 1.9 60' with all bolt-ons. 367rwhp And he has some decent heads, he should be low 11's.

Just using this one as an example because its just about full weight:

BAIN ------- 11.429 @ 116.81 (1.51), 00 Camaro SS A4, TCI4400, 3.73, 3400, 12/04

So your telling me that a stock 00 Camaro SS A4, stock cam, stock heads, no FI, and 3.73 gears at 3400 pounds can run those times? How is that possible? Again im no doubting you but Id just like more info about what is involved because those are insane times without any internal engine work done!

yeah im puzzled as to how your gonna squeeze out an 11 second pass on NA, with no big power adders and close to full weight? you must be one hell of a driver

Weather plays a roll in it. 60' plays a roll in it. Weight plays a roll in it. 3400lb's with a driver is not near full weight. Especially for an SS as it more than likely came with a lot of options. I could see it being full weight for a stripper Z + driver.

I dunno about low 11's. He doesnt launch extremely hard as he is still on his stock 10 bolt and his clutch is slipping but his best run I believe was 12.09. The track conditions were pretty shitty and he hasnt gotten back with his new clutch yet so im sure he can break into the 11's. Hes a decent driver but nothing special, im sure someone with better track skills could muster a mid 11 pass. But thats still not the point I was trying to get at, and that is with his mods he was still low 12's/high 11's, and that is with a lot of internal engine mods. So how does a stock internal bolt on car run a 11 second pass?

I mean a 12-bolt is not a bolt on either, so id love to see a stock ls1 m6 or a4 with a big stall and gears run an 11 second pass. Again not saying it is impossible but they must be cutting like 1 second flat 60' times, which is pretty much not happening.
