Yeah, sounds like you are off to a good start. LS6 heads and a decent cam with full boltons would definitely get you the 400 mark. What type of stall and rear end are you going to end up with?

Here is a good explanation of a stall or torque converter.
http://www.bankspower.com/Tech_under...rqueconver.cfm

As far as cam goes, there are many different manufacturers. You might check sites like SDPC or Thunder Racing for some good profiles. You might be able to get a good deal on a used one on here, if it is a hyd. roller then it will not matter if it was used unlike a solid roller. Good way to save money as well.
I don't have a clearance problem on mine and the are milled .030

If you are going for the 400 mark I would go bigger than the LS6 cam or a Z06 cam for that matter. Something in the 224-228 range would definitely be a good route to check out. Plus you shouldnt have clearance problems unless you are thinking of going 24x's and 600+ lift ie:T-Rex, MS3, G5x3 and 4.

Make sure that if you do go fairly big or just mild for that matter that you upgrade your valvetrain to avoid unwanted problems/damage. I would suggest that you run dual springs with if you can afford them titanium retainers and some hardened pushrods. no need to replace rockers or lifters...they will get the job done.

werd up on the exhaust. that is what i run. what size are the pipes you have? 2.5 or 3'? any bullet muffler would probably get it done. just depends on how much you want to spend. With a cam you are gonna want to have a good flowing high velocity exhaust. You will get more out of your cam/heads.

thinking 2.5 side exit before the rear wheel, since my gas tank is on the otehr side i cant really run it out the back easily. would port and polishing the heads help at all? or are they at max flow already. any kinda intake manifold ud recommend? thanks for the replies you are pretty much the only who would respond to an s10 lol

lol!

Yeah if you can get a good port job on those heads it will be worth it IMO. If you were looking to up the CR you might look into getting them milled to achieve 11.1 or so. You will definitely want to look into getting an LS6 intake or if you can afford it the FAST. I am gonna be honest, the 90/90 setup with the intake TB combo seems to be the route that 90% of the folks I know are leaning towards if not already running.

wait...your an S10?

It all depends on if you are trying to get all you can out of the motor. LS6 will work just fine if you want to hit the 400 mark and call it a day. If you are shooting for the 430+ range then a ported FAST may be worth it. They are only worth it if you are willing to pay it. I am glad I got mine over the LS6 honestly. It gives you a chance to do port work on them in the future or you can easily slap a direct port setup on them as well.

CR = Compression Ratio

Well I can help you out a bit...answer these.

Are you wanting to spray your truck?
Have you thought more about getting a turbo or supercharger over heads and cam?

Nice mid range ehh?
well I ran a cam that kicked in around the 2200 mark and pulled pretty far up there. 222/226 .566\.569 114

Worked great, but I wanted a cam that said "F U" so I went wild with the 244/248

i thought about maybe adding a remote mount turbo under my bed later on. i dont like nitrous seems incredibly cheap to me. maybe a little higher 2200 like 3000 or so would be nice. how did the idle sound on that?

Well the idle on a 114 is fairly tame but that cam had a little bit of chop to it. I mean you can tell that it had one for sure. Are you looking for a mean idle or something that is more of a sleeper?

Get a top end cam if you plan on going 160...lmao!
