can an oem ls1 block handle 1000rwhp? assuming that the motor is put together correctly: forged internals, billet main caps/girtle, motorplates, arp fastners, etc.

can it be done and could you expect any kind of longevity from the motor?

I would say that would be pretty hard to do on a stock sleeve LS1 block. You are talking around 1200 flywheel. Not saying it can't be done, but it most likely will not last for long

what is the first thing to go on the stock aluminum block?

i know the heads can push off...but i think that is the 4-studs per cylinder issue not the composition of the block...

on the contrary...i think it is the composition of the block, or as jayz was sayin, the sleeves. how "secure" the heads are to the block is one thing, the material holding up to the cylinder wall pressures is another. best bet is to go Fe if ur makin that much power

but iron is so heavy! is there a way to resleve the block with a stronger material?

not to sound like an idiot, i know 1000 whp is almost unusable on a road course... but what if some one wanted to build a double crown F-body?
1000+whp and 1.00+lateral g on the skid pad.

more than it would cost u to just buy the one i listed! do it, do it! i dont know the exact cost, but for one thing they'd need to know what they are doing, and you would most likely be payin more than a premanufactured block. its a pretty pimp setup, made to handle ALOT.

In effect, that is what I am in the process of building right now. Roadrace fbod w/1000hp and great handling.

As for the block, it has been done before but without any long term feedback. The first thing to go on the ls1 blocks is the thin sleeves due to detonation. Also the 98 ls1 blocks have a thinner sleeve than the 99+ blocks. So when me and GMR were discussion engine option for the Twin turbo kit I told them iron block all the way(I had a 98ls1 motor). I did have to give up a few pounds but the iron block is TWO FOLD stronger than the alum ls1 block. When you're sinking all kinds of money to reach 1000hp why not carry the iron block as an "insurance policy". Just my .02$

The aluminum block is a major liability at 700+rwhp... Id go for the iron block as well.

That's funny, the block and pistons that pushed my car over 170MPH are now in my daily driver truck. 30k miles on it so far.
