PCV Delete Guys - Problems Running Just Breathers?
I've heard that removing the PCV (therefore removing all crankcase vacuum) can cause ring seal issues. How severe are we talking?
I was going to rig up the factory AIR pump to provide a bit of crankcase vacuum, but speaking with smokinHawk on this forum (who has tried it) changed my mind - he said it didn't generate enough vacuum, and even he switched to breathers on both sides.
My question is this: I drive the car on the street alot and at the track alot - am I going to see any serious issues with no PCV?
Thanks in advance!
post up that part # and where ya got it! Anso, if anyone has a part # for the breather oil fill cap, I'd appreciate that one too, as I was going toput a breather on both sides.
I've got the Plastic tube connecting both sides at the back of the engine still hooked up. I've cut the part of the y-hookup that goes to the front of the motor and blocked it with blue silicon inside the tube about 1 inch deep. So you de-clutter the engine bay a bit. It's an added plus.
One breather on the passenger cover is 100% OK. !st gen small block have been doing it since the 50's. Internally the holes cast in the block for the pushrods in the cam valley provide plenty of bay to bay breathing and the tube at the back of the vcovers can only help. Plus I don't have a single drop of oil in the intake anymore!
Just do it!

Not trying to flame about the silicone, just never thought of that as a way to do it.... a rubber cap with silicone inside it, is the route I would personally take.... but if what you did sealed it up good, I'm sure it's fine.
GM makes a plug for it but it's like $9 and special order. Not worth it IMO.
