Default PCV Delete Guys - Problems Running Just Breathers?

I just got a new, ported FAST 90/NW 90 combo and they are going on the motor in the next month. As you can imagine, I don't want to get any oil on this manifold at all. PCV delete it is.

I've heard that removing the PCV (therefore removing all crankcase vacuum) can cause ring seal issues. How severe are we talking?

I was going to rig up the factory AIR pump to provide a bit of crankcase vacuum, but speaking with smokinHawk on this forum (who has tried it) changed my mind - he said it didn't generate enough vacuum, and even he switched to breathers on both sides.

My question is this: I drive the car on the street alot and at the track alot - am I going to see any serious issues with no PCV?

Thanks in advance!

If you could evacuate the crank case pressure through that little pcv valve, one breather should be plenty. I plan on doing one breather in the driver side PCV tube grommet.

Which breathers are you using, and how do you have them set up?

Anyone that has found a breather that fits in teh drivers side grommit, please post up where you got it and what you had to do to get it on there, I want to do this for a couple reasons, #1 to remove the oil in the intake issue, #2, to clean some more crap out of the enginge bay, #3, I will eventually be putting a victor jr intake on, so this is one less issue I wil have to deal with then, and #4, I'll be able to sell the AMW catch can for probably as much as I paid for it back when they first came out, so this is pretty much gonna cost me nothing.

post up that part # and where ya got it! Anso, if anyone has a part # for the breather oil fill cap, I'd appreciate that one too, as I was going toput a breather on both sides.

No pcv, no sweat. DO IT!!!!!!!!!

I've got the Plastic tube connecting both sides at the back of the engine still hooked up. I've cut the part of the y-hookup that goes to the front of the motor and blocked it with blue silicon inside the tube about 1 inch deep. So you de-clutter the engine bay a bit. It's an added plus.

One breather on the passenger cover is 100% OK. !st gen small block have been doing it since the 50's. Internally the holes cast in the block for the pushrods in the cam valley provide plenty of bay to bay breathing and the tube at the back of the vcovers can only help. Plus I don't have a single drop of oil in the intake anymore!

Just do it!

Where did you get the brather oil fill cap? If I can get my hands on that, I'l get the rubber nipple looking things and seal up the intake and the TB/valve cover. I do want to put a breather on the drivers side as well, preferrable somethign that will fit thru the rubber grommit in the back of the drivers side head, hopefully far enough so I can silicone it to the grommit good so it won't come out. I have seen some small dia. k/n filters in the summit catalog somewhere, that would probably work perfect just need to know what size to get. Someone must have done this by now...? If not, then the trick mentioned above will work too, I won't fill the tube with silicone, but I will find another one of those rubber nipple looking things and put it over the end... the silicone thing just doesn't do it for me.

Speed Inc sells them...I am waiting on my breather now...hopefully it will be here today. you will need to find a small breather for the drivers side valve cover though....and buy some plugs to plug up the lines from the valve covers.....

A solid 1" plug of silicone that's smoothed off at the edge of the cut part of y is perfect. I like to think that I do things right, I don't ever think of myself as a jimmyrigger, I personally think silicone is the best way compared to using a cap (oil leaks) when wanting to keep the extra y vent at the back.

I just looked at the speed inc breather, is that just to replace the filler cap, or will it fit in the drivers side valvecover too.

Not trying to flame about the silicone, just never thought of that as a way to do it.... a rubber cap with silicone inside it, is the route I would personally take.... but if what you did sealed it up good, I'm sure it's fine.

I have everything capped off and one breather (from Speed Inc) in place of the oil cap.

What did you use to cap off the drivers side? I'd go this route, just haven't found anything that would cap the hole good.

I bought a rubber plug from Home Depot. I wish I remembered the size but I don't. It looks like a cork from a wine bottle, but rubber. I think I bought the second biggest one. It pushes in about half way and hasn't moved since.

GM makes a plug for it but it's like $9 and special order. Not worth it IMO.

ditched the pcv a year ago.. no problems as long as you stay up on oil changes as it seems to make it dirtier faster... i used a small k/n on the driverside and a metco one where the oil cap is..works great

Got a part # for that metco breather, and the k/n one you used? More options the better.

So let me get this straight, you guys are capping all the PCV holes and just running an oil breather cap? Would this work with FI systems?
