Default Cam only??

I have been debating on what to do next i think ive made my decision just need a little help from you guys. I want to put a cam in my car but dont have the money to do the heads also. i figured it out and a head n cam package would be around 3grand after complete. Which is a little out of my range i was wondering if i did a cam only for now and waited to get my heads later if thats a good idea. I would like to go with the TSP 233/239 .595/.603 but i dunno if thats to aggressive for stock heads. So my second choice was the TSP 231/237 .598/.595. What do you guys think??, sorry for the long post just kinda stuck here. Total cost here will be around a grand maybe a bit more.

its fine to change only the cam, plenty of people are doing it, and plenty of people are making a lot of power with a cam only.
my advice to you would be to do your own research and select a cam that you'd be happy with, and remember that bigger is not always better.

the torquer v2 cam from tsp is a great cam only cam and really rocks with a set of heads. i believe it is around a 232/234 about the same lift as the 231/237 cam. there are so many choices out there man. just spend the time looking around!

by the time u get everything for the swap and pay for it to be tuned it u are going to be over 2 grand. if u want heads id say wait and get them. if all u want is a cam then go for it.

Bbbbbbut you need a ported oil pump, double roller timing chain, new lifters, every single gasket in the engine.
Can't wait to get my car tuned and hit up the track.

dude TSP ported LS6 heads are only 899.99 assembled thats a STEAL, they make substantial gains. I would go with a 2 degree higher on the exhaust side it would give you more performance, like a 236/238 .59X .59X (Comps XER Lobes are bad *****) on a 112 LSA. Cam package is 599.99 from TSP.

custom grinded, thats what im gonna do. Dont settle for a off the shelf cam, get one that suits your needs. Im going with a Comp XER 226/228 581 585 on a LSA 112

You really need to figure out when you want to shift and what RPM do you want to spin the motor. All these are very important factors before you buy a cam or start tossing around cam profiles. Is this a dd that will see limited track time? Is this a track car at all? DO you want a mean *** street car or a drag queen? You really need to make those decisions before you start tossing duration and lift around.

The higher the duration number the higher that cams power band is gonna be if you want a nice street setup I would go with CNC ported LS6 heads and a 226/226 .571 .575(430rwhp setup) on a 112 LSA, if you dont want that lope get a 114. The lower the LSA the lopier its gonna be and the faster you will hit your power band. Also check out the 224/224 (TR224) VERY decent, nice street cam! Make sure if your gonna do all this to get a simple LS6 intake manifold aswell. Let us know!

also if your car is an 00' or older id recommend rod bolts as the stockers arent that great past 6k. also factori in if u are going to install it or have it done. thats more money u want to add in. i am replacing the oil pump with a ported ls6 one, reusuing the stock lifters, and replacing the rod bolts and i am almost at 2000 with the tune. but ill likely pay for it to be put in because im lazy.

I dont think you NEED rodbolts i think youll be ok, as for a new oil pump..Its ALWAYS a good idea to change oil pump while doing a cam swap for freshining things up and have added security, you Dont need new lifters...stock ones work great!
LS2 bait your car is really nice.

I am an 2000t/a and i have upgraded to teh LS6manifold already. Yes what im looking for is a street car with some track time maybe once a month or every other month. But mostly i want a street demon. What would be the best cam for a street car then. My mods now are...........
Headers/true duals/4.10gears/intake/90mmTB/85mmMAF/LID/LS6manifold might be forgetting something not sure.

Well you've got 410's so a bigger cam isnt that bad in your case. The t2 might be a great choice. I run a tr224 112 lsa and I put down pretty stout numbers, but thats not to say that the T2 won't be just as stout. The powerband is moved slightly up the rpm scale w/t2 compared to my cam
but I've seen dyno's from TSP that show a very healthy powerband with that cam. If I had a second car I'd definately run the t2 to compare it to my current ride.

A small piece of advice. Try the G5X3 cam for a very streetable daily driver adding 55-65 more rwhp. Be sure to upgrade to the comp 921 dual valvesprings and you will have no problem handling the .600 lift. Stay away from Patriot springs. BTW exhaust side is .608 The 921 kit will give the capability of shifting between 6500 and 7000 rpms depending on where you have the rev limiter set. IMO if you want to get away with cam only, talk to Lou at LG Motorsports. I believe he has turned out quite a few Corvettes, Camaro, and Firebirds with cam only making 400 rwhp and more. That would be with Longtube headers and his personal touch with LS1 edit. Lou is a great guy, and his company is well worth sending your car to. His Techs are #1 and Bobby and Anthony with customer support can get you whatever info you need. www.lgmotorsports.com
Sorry to be so wordy but I love this stuff. The other cam is G5X4 very mean!!!!
