Default Found a new way to clean head bolt holes

I didn't think there was any great method at removing all the coolant/oil from the bolt holes, so I had to invent something that was more effective and faster than the paper towel method. Since I used the shop-vac prior to removing the heads, I thought I could utilize it again in some way.

After about 30 seconds of thought, I thought I could try to fit a milk jug lid over my attatchment, then poke a hole in it for a straw. Well, the lid didn't exactly fit, so I turned it over and put gasket sealer on it and let it sit overnight. The next day it was solid as a rock, so I poked a hole in it and shoved in one of those ribbed thermus-type straws, then sealed it w/ RTV.

It worked like a charm, with one exception. Remember if you blew in those straws, it would make a high pitched whistle that made you want to blow your brains out? Well times that by 50 or so. So while doing this, ear plugs are a must. Overall, it took me about 5 minutes to clean out all 10 bolts thoroughly.

And a headswap wouldn't be complete with out the ceremonial Baptisim of blood.

2 hours later and 1 pint lighter, the heads are on.

You're eternally bonded to your engine once you bleed on it

BTW, how did you get the block surface so clean? I used a plastic ice scraper and mine doesn't look nearly that good. It's flat though, so I guess that's all that counts.

Nice idea! For my head swap, one of my friends actually left a chunk of tissue on my engine from the valvecover ledge on the stock heads. Those damned things are SHARP! I didn't think to take pics...oh well. The best part about it was...it was Hilton's hand and not my own!
