Default 6.0 liter Iron block

Is it possible to build a stock 6.0 liter iron block to be just like the LS2 and hit 500 Horsepower? Just by putting on some ported, CNC LS6 or LS2 243 castings and a cam to help it out. Thanks

Sure it is, as far a getting 500 crank HP out of a 6 liter iron motor this would be pretty easy. You can build the motor close to the same specs of an LS2 motor but that would make no sense as that would only yield you 400 crank HP.

Put on a good pair of CNC LS6 heads, or better yet some AFR 205 heads, and throw in a cam like the LGM G5x3 or X4 cam, and you will be at 550crank HP easy, with full tube headers, a good prof dyno tune, etc, etc. Then throw on a lil 100HP shot of N20 just to use on that occcassion like when you want to bitch slap the new 06 Z06 Vette!!

There are a ton of options to get you above 500 with a 408. Talk to a sponsor and have them put together a set up for you.

That's what am plan on building a budget motor (if possible). Maybe use the stock pistons and rods don't know if it can handle the 500 + HP. Can I use the stock internals? Have been thinking about Forging up the 6.0 liter 364 cubes putting some forged pistons and rods keeping it 364ci. Use the stock Crank. FAST 90/90 setup or the LS6 intake. Putting some good heads on it like some AFR 205 0r the 225, ET Performance or the LS6 CNC heads on it. Don't know which cam to go with it? Had one in mine TexasGiant Cam Can I use the NEW AFTERmarket Cams that are being used in the LS2 in my Iron 6.0 liter block Build up? A good Cam in it that would hoping hit 500 - 550 hp if possible All Motor N/A then maybe spray it Thanks. Has Anyone Done this before?

If I had the money I would do the 402 or the 408 build up.

Look at some of the rotating assemblys offered by site sponsors. If you are spending the money for forged pistons and rods for durability, the crank isn't much more to make more power.

You can get a 4" Eagle crank from Texas Speed for less than $900.

I know, just been there.
It was cheaper to get a balanced shortblock when you change internals. Ended up with a LME built 370.

I ended up with a 370 from HPE. Very good prices from both LME and HPE. FFHP also has a sale going on for 370s and 402 (or 408s) one of those.
I wont know my numbers until the end of august though I will post up though

Thanks you guys for your help. What cams are being used right now for the LS2 block that are putting out good numbers? What heads should I buy for this set up? LS6 CNC AFR 225?

NO, for stock LS2 displacement you want the AFR 205 heads and not the 225cc. Those are for larger cubed motors 402+ and for forced induction. Keep in mind that DART makes some nice heads and i just bought mine fully assembled brand new 225cc for my D1SC blown Z06 for $1,290.00 shipped. But if your looking to make MAX power the AFR 205s flow a little better. Also, you can get some great flowing LS6 CNC heads from places like LIVERNOIS MOTORSPORTS or PATRIOT CNC LS6 heads, for between 1300 to $1,600 that will make big power also (and are at least $1000) cheaper than AFR 205s!!

Here is a link i started recently regarding the best cams for an LS2 motor matched to AFR 205 heads. Your answers on the best power making cams for your application are contained in this thread and yes they will all work in a 6 liter iron block. You don't need forged internals for what your doing and you can get a used 6 liter iron shortblock for cheap on the used parts section and many have low miles on them. You are on a budget and that's fine so stick with the stock crank and stock LS2 displacement b/c you can still create a motor that makes between 450 to 480rwhp, with good header, LSX 90 intake and of course some great heads like the AFR 205s, matched with one of the cams referenced below.

That's what I'm saying... I bet the old school people making 450 think they were pro-stock status feel stupid nowadays... Us knocking people for wanting to make ONLY 500bhp, LOL. Must be easy to make horsepower in an LS1. =) I'd save the weight and go aluminum...

On motor....

LQ9 6.0L block.
Patriot Stage III LS6 heads
TSP Giant cam
Motor built by TSP for $3500. Plus a rod upgrade I choose for an extra $225.

527 RWHP
469 ft/pounds (with a great curve)
