Just put the motor that your name refers to, and your there.

+ 1 . are you looking for 500 fwhp or 500 rwhp ? i'd say something like a 228 -232 cam, lts, ory,ud pulley, and a tune will put you in the 385-400 rw range.you will probably have to get heads to get in the 425 + range to be at around 500 fwhp.

Actually Check out the Dynometer section Mike and Ron at vengeance racing have a trick flow headed with full boltons that is still in initial tuning that laid down 488rwhp and wil most likely put down 500 after they get a new fuel pump and break it in. And thats only a 346

Does it have forged internals. I can't see you getting to 500 IMO, not even w/ a radical H/C combo?

Like the others said, 500 engine HP is possible out of a fairly stout heads and cam package. 500 rear wheel HP is safely beyond the reach of all but the most radical, advanced and expensive setups. You'd need something very agressive, with some exotic boltons to get there, and once you do, itll drive like crap on the street. And if that wernt bad enough, your stock internals are in danger, especially if youre spinning to the moon to make all that power. Shoot for the 425-450 range H+C setup, and you can still tell the layperson you have 500 HP.

You have a lot of searching and reading to do. Get a feel for how different combo's are working for people. Most stock block heads/cam/intake mods will be in the 430-480 range. If you want a solid 500+ hp I would go with a 402 shortblock and decent set of heads w/ not too big of a cam. Of couse some people are putting way more than 500 with agressive 402's and 408's. Just start searching.

+1.. like everyone else said its not cheap getting 500+ rwhp. you have to get a good combo of parts if not all the money will be down the drain.. seen it happen a lot in here so do your serching but for sure your going to need good heads, cam and intake. good luck

I don't know your definition of HP but I think you are pretty mistaken. A genuine 500bhp motor (rated in the languge we know and compare to other manufacturer vehicles means 'bhp SAE Net'). You would need your car to be making a solid 440+rwhp SAE corrected with sensible graph smoothing on a MUSTANG dyno. On a Dynojet you would need somewhere around 470rwhp SAE corrected to really have a legitimate claim to a 500bhp motor.

There are several guys with such a setup, but not that many on a 346ci and all have required h/c and full bolt ons. And the cam will have to be closer to wild than mild.

As for 500rwhp, well I've yet to see on from a Mustang dyno or even one corrected SAE with decent graph smoothing. I don't doubt the LS1 is capable of such power with stock displacment but it is pretty much race track territory only.

Cheap option:

TSP MS4 and Stage 1 PRC heads (or Terminator heads, but more $$$ and require flycutting).
Ported stock TB
lid
Pacesetter LT's
TSP Rumbler X duals

It won't be 500bhp, but it will be pretty mean. Other bolt ons like pulleys and CAI may also help, or a wilder cam, but flycutting def needed.

You'll probably also need to think of oil pump, fuel injectors, timing chain, head studs and a tune. If you plan on making it last and achieve it's intended HP level.

BTW - stock suspensin & chassis will be pretty useless with that much HP not too mention the rear end will probably blow also.

save about 10k+ to get yourself there. 500hp on a 346 is harder than most people think w/o using FI.

Maybe Flywheel Horce Power.

How many stock bottom-end Heads+Cam cars can you name? LOL

It IS posible with a Heads+Cam and the usual bolt ons, but its not cheap or easy.

I am currently [that I know off] the highest HP hydrolic roller H/C stock bottom end LS1 around at 507.9RWHP and 433.6RWTQ. Put down on a chasis dyno through 4.56 gears in a 12-bolt.

But I am one of only a few. I can only name 2 other cars that have hit 500+ with Heads+Cam on a stock shortblock

One was another CARTEK Corvette about 3 years ago [502RWHP] The other is a TTP car. I think LG claimed close to 550 but that was not a stock shortblock.
