What type of hone was done on the cylinder walls, and what brand of piston rings are you using?

Are you sure it's oil smoke? You didn't mention it, but if the engine's running fat, that'll cause plenty of smoke. Check for a vacuum leak. Engines that run fat usually belch a bluish-tinted smoke, and the stink of raw, unburned fuel is unmistakable. How many miles are on the engine? It could be something as simple as the rings not being seated yet. Did anyone do a tune for you?

The more I think about it Terry.....the more I think it's the heads. It was definitely oil smoke when you started it up at the house. It's worth a try redoing the rocker arm bolts and disconnecting the PCV system (for troubleshooting).

Get a few more opinions on this and let me know what ya think. If you decide to swap back to stock heads.....your number one mechanic will be back the end of November. I believe Zeeya still owes you a set of stockers. Not ideal but mine is running pretty strong with stockers for now.

Good luck with it man.

What are you guys sealing up the rocker bolts with?

I'm experiencing a similar problem myself a couple threads down.

Let me know.

Does it continue to smoke when running or is it just after startup? If it quits after running it will always be your valve guides leaking.Either they will have to much clearance or the seals are bad.

TDW, did you coat the entire length of the threads on the rocker bolts?

Didn't use Loctite I presume?

Thanks!

Well, most everything I'm seen has said Loctite, which is what I used. Loctite red to be exact, but I think you can use blue too.

But I'm just curious if the thread sealer will serve the same purpose as the Loctite in this situation. Obviously I don't think the two will mix real well, but I'm not real sure either.

If your threads are sealed and you are still getting some smoke maybe the rings are not seating. What we used to do is run come straight 30 motor oil(cheaper the better)and drive the car in second or third gear from idle to 4000rpm for 3-4 minutes gradually take it up to 5500.Drain oil, throw in something non- synthetic and go rape it.Now your rings are seated.
