Default Difference in cranks, truck engines vs ls1's

Alright, I was reading this book on ls1s/ls6's and they mention that the gen 3 truck blocks have different crankshafts. nearly identical excet the rear end of it is larger than the ls1/ls6 models. When building up a truck engine to be mounted in a truck, could I use any ls1 crank or do I have to use the ones meant for the trucks? Only one I could find to fit a 5.3l block on summit was $1050.. way more than the 400$ scat forged cranks. Anyone know what the deal on this is?

Thanks!

The pre-2002 truck engines had a different crank like you stated. Any of the newer ones are the same as the LS1's.

The 99-00 model 6.0l cranks and 4.8l manual transmission cranks ad the wider flange at the rear. The 99-00 6.0l crank was designed for use with the 4l80e. The 5.3 cranks are the same as the ls1's except for the ls1's are gun drilled as stated above. The 01-present 6.0l cranks are the same as the Ls1's but the bobweights are heavier to compensate for the heavier pistons. And the 01-newer 4.8l cranks are the same in stucture as the ls1's they have a stroke of 3.267.

So then I could use an LS1 crank in an 02 5.3l block? I was worried because all I found listed under 5.3L was one for $1050 on summit lol, im loking more 400$-500$ range

Thanks guys,

yes, but its the same stroke as the 02 5.3 crank... why would you change it?

Not going with stock stroke, was just checking on interchangability of aftermarket cranks. I'll likely be going with a 4".

dont start with a 5.3 block, that would be a huge mistake

spend an extra couple hundred bucks and get a 6.0 block

Ive heard it was a pretty good block to work with. Im not going too crazy with the engine, just looking for more power, and the capacity to spray a little more.
