Who is running a 112 lsa cam in their A4 DD ????
I'm wanting to put a fm13 on a 112 in my dd A4, but don't want any surging/bucking issues. Will have a vig. 3200 stall. Should I just go 114???

i heard with good tuning you can run a 112. but supposedly the 114 is easier to tune, and better for idle. im wondering if there is any power difference between 112 and a 114 lsa?

Maybe a dumb question, but why would the LSA affect the driveability. I thought that the different LSA's is when you get into your power, not idle quality?
I currently run a 231/237 w/ a 3600 and after a good tune it almost drives like stock. A tiny bit of cam surge @ idle, but not too bad at all.

I' m sure someone can clarify this more in depth then I can but, the lower the lsa the quicker the power comes on and generally the rougher the idle. Higher lsa idles better but it takes more rpm to generate the full power. Tr's CheatR is like a 117 lsa and is supposed to idle almost stock.

My car still has some idle tuning issues because i had it tuned while having a vacuum leak, but it idles in D at stop lights fine and there is no surging or bucking while i'm driving regardlesss of speed or rpm.

Getting the 112's to keep from bucking is in the tune. Usually, it's because the timing is too low or jumping around for light-pedal and 0% throttle conditions. Bumping the timing up to about 43~44* in a few spots and keeping it consistent cures a lot of the problem. The rest is bringing the AFR in line and deciding where the TC is going to lock/unlock. I've tuned two TSP Torquer v.2s on a 112 (one heads and one cam-only), both in A4's. I'd say 95% of the surging that was there at the start is gone.

by using a lower lsa, you create more overlap. More overlap means less compression which will allow it to bleed off easier (more overlap is what creates lope, and the more lope there is, the harder it is tune tune for surging)
Lower LSA will move the powerband down too.

Its all in the tune.I got a TR224/112 installed this august and had al kinds of problems startup/stalling issues/dying at fast food drivethus/etc.Took my car to a diff. tuner and fires right up everytime and has never stalled. So it depends on your tuner

typically, if your running a smaller cam you can afford a lower lsa since theres not quite as much over lap to begin with. but the higher the duration, the lower lsa you will want otherwise you will bleed out all your boost.

good luck jzzamesb. im doin a 112 lsa cam swap this winter in mine. i cant seem to decide but i think you'll be fine with the 112. you're in the same boat as me though....we both need tq converters and lt's

A Cam like a 224 on 112 can run like stock no problem. It's when you get into the 230+ it gets harder. I have probly 6 cars running 109-112LSA's on 230+ Cams.I'm pretty sure they are all daily drivers. It can be done.
