Default Car sometimes "studders" @ WOT around 3500-4500 RPM's. Is this a sign that I am LEAN?

I just installed T1/LS6 intake/Ported throttle body.
Only thing wrong is the car sometimes seems like it studders upon accelleration in the higher RPMs.
Is this me running lean?

Could be a fuel problem....do you have an a-tap to see??

If it is a lean issue it would ping at higer rpms...little pops...

MAFT would solve that problem if that was it

okay, now the next question.
Can you feel when it PINGS.

I have a LOUD exhaust (mac w/or pipe, loudmouth, cam) so I dont think I would hear it.

I can just feel how it sometimes sputters a couple times

You won't feel ping. It's only detected with your ears.

hmmmmm

This is really going to worry me.
I will soon have an autotap by the end of the week. I will just have to play around with it I guess.

ATAP should pick up some ping in the form of "knock". It'll tell you where in the rpm/load range you're experiencing knock retard which indicates pre-ignition, or knock.

My car is running 100% as far as I can see.

The only thing is the studder-like action up in the RPM band.
Could it be valvefloat?

I also have reason to believe that when my mechanicshop went into the engine back when I first got the car they put the stock retainers in.
I am not 100% but what would stock retainers with 941 springs do? how would the car react to that?
