Default Quiet good flowing muffer, which one?

I run Macs w/ offroad pipe through stock exhaust w/ a cut-out. With the cut-out capped its very quiet and very livable. With the cut-out open, its very loud. I want to keep the tameness of the car, but I want the extra power when the cut-out is capped. I have been told my stock muffler is killing me. What is the quietest, best flowing muffler out there? Are their any cat-backs that are reasonably priced that will not make my car 'any' louder with the cut-out capped? I love being able to run the cut-out capped and have such a smooth drivable car, I don't want to give that up. But if I can free up a few horses and keep it queit, I will do that also.

The SLP dual/dual and the Dynomax 17227 (ultraflow race welded) muffler are both quieter than stock, and both are just about the best flowing actual muffler that you can get. I have the Dynomax (and a cutout) and I can attest to the fact that despite upgrading to 3" catback (over the 2.75" stock piping), the dynomax was still quieter than the stock SS muffler.

SLP dual/dual guys claim the same things.

I hate to help someone like Kenny H out, but the dynomax super turbo 3" in 3" out 11x14x5" muffler is great on our cars. It's about 5#s lighter than the stock muffler, as quiet as the stock muffler, and flows much better. My dual cutotus yielded ~30rwhp through the stock muffler and Ipipe, with the new dynomax muffler and stock Ipipe, they are only worth ~10rwhp.

The best part? It's only $60 from Jegs.

SLP dual-dual sounds like the perfect muffler for you I wish the previous owner of my car hadn't GIVEN IT TO THE MUFFLER SHOP when he had this Flowmaster put on.

SLP dual/dual hands down. I've tried the cutout twice now, and both times I saw no ET or MPH improvement. I had a 3.5" Mufflex prior to the SLP, and it was LOUD. I'm running FLP's w/ an ORP, and people are amazed at how quiet it is! There's no rasp, and it also gives a nice sleeper look.

Kenny.

JS is right the 17227 muffler is great. He recommend it to me last year. It flows awesome. The SLP muffler is great to but it's heavy as lead and just the muffler cost $289.00 WOW!! Good luck.

Kenny,

BTW, i just got off the phone with Dynomax. The 17227 muffler flows 920 cfm!!! And it has a nice deep rumble. Hope that helps.

Wow, the Dynomax flows well! FWIW, you can buy a good, used SLP dual/dual complete for around $200 or so. Mine was $208 shipped to my door, and it had 5,000 miles on it.

FYI - on the SLP Dual/Dual.

I just received their printed catalog and they are advertising it as the new "louder" dual/dual. They must have changed the muffler.

Yes, the aftermarket muffler is now louder, that's why I bought a used OEM version...it's the only place you can get one now.
