Default Driving w/open headers a short distance?

I know this may have been asked before but anyway... I am fixing to install the headers on my truck. The o2 sensors are in the collector. If I were to drive say 8 miles at 25mph to the muffler shop with open headers and like a grandma, what is the worst thing that can happen? Is it possible to burn a valve ? I also plan on putting cutouts on about 10" after the collectors for track use, any problems there?

I did it my old 72 Vette, taking it to the muffler shop. Didn't hurt anything, I did get a nasty look from a highway patrol man as I turned into the muffler shop.

I don't think a short trip will hurt even with the O2's

I have to cut my stock Y pipe. After I put them on, I have to drive to the muffler shop to get the flanges on the Y pipe welded up. Then, I'm gonna have them cut the other end of the Y and make a true dual system with cutouts, Xpipe, and two magnaflo mufflers.

You can drive to the muffler shop no prob. You may get a check engine light from the o2 sensor. That ain't no sweat. Pull the batt cable off and let the computer reboot and it will eliminate the code. I wouldn't haul too much a.. through Alvin. APD would love that ticket!!!

It will be ok. I drove with my 1982 Z28 and open headers for 2 days. The thing sounded better than a NASCAR ! On decel you could hear and FEEL the sparks/flames flying out the headers ! I had some guys give me the thumbs up when I drove by. Make sure you cool it if you see any cops and have a damn good excuse prepared if they pull you over.

You need to get your *** over to the house and help me put these on, Ford Lover. I'll buy the Bud Light. I'm still thinking about towing it though.

BTW, Welcome to the board.

You'll be fine. I drove my T/A 383 w/ open headers ~50 miles before I had the 4" Mufflex installed. I had to pull out of my garage and haul *** before anyone at the apt. complex could pinpoint who it was. It makes for some interesting looks and comment at lights, especially when you have a cam that bumps right along.
You'll be fine. Jason 98 TA has driven his 422 around more with open headers & no y-pipe than he has with an exhaust! That's also how he races it.
