Default heads & cam guys inside please to help me with my purchase

ok, I am about to purchase heads & cam for my car. the car now has all the boltons ,4.10 gears,hpp3/MAFT, & a hotcam.I am thinking of either ARE heads or GTP heads, I want a big(proven) cam that will idle rough like my hotcam; not a pop pop exhaust note but a lumpity lump sound. I want people to know I am not stock & fear me. i have heard about the G5 cam & a couple others seem to be throwing down some nice #'s. what would u suggest.any info on the heads would also be appreciated too.thanx

ARE's package has treated me well. There's also lots of guys that have the GTP and like them, as well. Click on ARE's banner to the right, or go to www.rapidmotorsports.com

My previous combo used GTP heads and one of GTP's cams (226/226 .591/.591 112lsa). I was pretty pleased with everything, and the car ran 10.8's @ a raceweight of ~3250lbs.

People may argue about who's heads are the best, but it's hard to compare two different cars with different parts, even if they are similarly equipped. My point is that I don't think you be unhappy with heads from any of the well reputed vendors out there (MTI, GTP, ARE, etc...)

As far as cams... If you go too big, be prepared to rev the car higher to take advantage of the larger cam. I was shifting @ 7100-7200rpms with my last combo, and it finally took it's toll on the bottom end... A stock bottom end isn't very reliable revving too much higher than 6500rpm or so, IMO.

I'm running that ARE cam. Look a few posts down for Chris's sound clip. (think it's .554/.575, though)

You should absolutely consider LG Motorsports' heads and cam ...

They routinely dyno 400rwhp with heads, cam and headers.

Do a search on this site and you will several who have been most impressed with quality, craftsmanship and performance.

Between ARE, MTI, LG, GTP, etc, choose the one that is closest. That way if there are problems, you can have them check it out.
Seems like GTP ans LG have shown some really stout packages, and MTI cannot be beat for the quality of their work, especially if you want to have them install it. Right now, if I wanted heads/cam installed, I'd use LG... If I wanted to install it myself, I'd call up Thunder Racing and get a set of GTPs.

well I like what i have heard about the G5 cam but i think the heads & cam package is overpriced(around $3,900). the same with MTI, i think there heads & cam packages are the meas uring bar for everyone else to stack up against but I think the price is to high. I'm not cheap I just don't like to see companies charging X-amount when u can get similar results with good customer service & quality products for 500 - 1000 less.I see people all over several ls1 boards hitting the 420-430rwhp with stage II GTP packages. ARE is a proven company that makes great heads & puts over 400rwhp with almost all their packages.I would like to know about these 2 & peoples experiences a little more.I am open to any other suggestions too. I just have researched this a lot & know the ones to stay away from & the ones that are great but not for me.thanks guys keep the info coming this is a lot of money to spend & want to make sure i have no regrets

I am right in the middle of ARE's STG II H/C install. I can't give you any performance opinions (other than the new valvetrain looks bomb-proof), but I can say that Nick is a great guy to deal with. I am about as engine retarded as they come, and he has been very patient with all of my questions and concerns.

Nick's customer service is one of the best that I have run into, and as result I will be getting all of my future parts from ARE.

Just don't get hung up on peak dyno numbers. The area under the curve is what is most important. That is what generates ETs. I have hit almost 123mph with my setup that only dynos 408rwhp. This is before tuning and with a raceweight of almost 3500 pounds. I am limited in my mph due to hitting a 6600 rpm rev-limiter a couple of car lengths before the traps. With tuning and a 6800 limiter I am very confident of 124mph.

The higher dollar setup usually have dual springs and larger valves, this is what drives the costs up.
