Default New dyno results! 410rwhp/389rwtq - stock heads!

We had some time at the end of the day and decided re-dyno my car again. This time we decide to totally ditch the 3" off-road y-pipe and run open headers w/ a 6" extension. It was just a little loud, but the car sure responded!

I'm using the Thunder 230/224 .569/.563 111 lsa cam w/ stock heads.

We were more than pleased when it pulled 410rwhp/389rwtq!! The only difference since Saturday was removing the y-pipe.

Here is the dyno graph compared to Saturday's pull:

410rwhp/389rwtq - stock heads!

This was through the same Moser 12-bolt (4:30s), stock wheels, stock driveshaft, and stock flywheel. We just drove the car in, took the y-pipe off, bolted on the extensions, and put it on the dyno.

Damn, I can't wait to head back to the track! Just have to find some time to put my gears and new clutch in. School will be out in a week, so it's about to be racing season again.

We are going to try some 1 7/8 headers next and maybe some stage 2 heads? 10s would sure be nice in the summer heat.

Jason

Tater! even if it didn't make a single horsepower more, it was worth it just to hear the thing run. That is one bad a$$ sounding cam...

Awesome job on the 410. It is truly amazing what these cars are capable of.

Thanks Shane! It sure was sweet hearing it w/ open headers.

I think there is a little left in the car as far as tuning goes. We haven't even touched the program since the 224/224 cam. The A/F was around 13.0:1 and I wouldn't mine leaning it out a little more and mix some race gas in.

damn Jason! those are some amazing numbers through your drivetrain. I can't wait to see what it does with some ported heads!
all of your work will pay off as soon as you make it to the track

The cam was just as driveable as my B1 used to be. It does surge at a slightly higher RPM compared to the TR 224. However, it is nothing that bothers me in the least. I cruise around town in 6th gear at 1200 rpms with no problems. I drive the car everyday and plan to keep it that way.

Thanks Justin! The track is all that matters to me, as you well know. I will be very exicited to head back out there. It is nice having a spare block sitting around because I have literally killed this thing in the past few days. LOL It makes pushing the limit on the motors a little less stressful when you have spare parts.

What do you mean in regards to "surging"? Thanks.

BTW, on that rev with the Hooker on, sounds like some C5 Vettes

When you drive around in a parking lot in 1st gear with your foot off the gas and your RPMs are around 1k, sometimes the car will buck. This is very normal with aftermarket cams. The 230/224 seems to surge maybe 100rpms higher than the 224 did. However, you learn to drive around it after a day or so.

Damn Jason, that is some UNREAL power! I can't believe that you picked up an additional 9 RWHP by dropping the 3" y-pipe! That cam really likes to breathe! I no more have my 224 XE-R in, and now you're talking about this awesome cam that didn't sacrifice any bottom-end power but gained on the top-end. <sigh> I guess I'm going to get good at cam swaps, too. I need to dial in my current setup before I start swapping cams again.
Great results! I cannot wait to see how well it performs at the track. Are you trying to outrun the solid-roller setup?

I think I'm gonna get this for my C5. How would this cam preform being a split duration on an engine with ported heads?

Thanks Trevor! I would expect the gains I saw if I was using a crappy y-pipe. However, this is one NICE 3" mandrel bent off-road w/ a 3.5" Flowmaster collector I am using. It flows about as good as you are going to get in terms of a y-pipe. Geoff thought I would see the gains I saw, but I was a little hesitant. I guess he was right.

I'm just shooting for a 11.4x in the heat. Anything quicker than that will be great.

I'm still using the factory M6 idle speed (I think 850?).

STOP.

Get your car LS1EDIT'd and see where you stand, the results might surprise you. YOu might gain very little from porting except shifting the curves over to the right and dropping lower speed tq/hp a small amount.

If you stand @ 420rwhp/400rwtq with LS1EDIT you stand very little to gain.

Holy Smokes Jason, that's huge...410 with stock heads? Muwahahaha!! Seeing that you're gaining some good power up high, I might back off a few degrees of advance on my 230/224 111LSA cam and put it in at 112 instead of 109. Should be worth a few more ponies up high. Looks like I need a Thunder Throttle Body and a better header/y-pipe setup if I'm going to stay in front of you, haha.

Congrats to you and Geoff. Y'all are really on to something with that "reverse split" cam. Kudos for sharing cam specs to enthusiasts on the internet too. Alot of companies try to keep their cam specs secret...guarded like the recipe to Coca Cola or something.

I'd much rather do business with a company who's got nothing to hide. Thanks for sharing the "secrets".

I'm really thinking about a 236/229 112ls .600 lift type cam with some light weight intake valves.

Hey Terry, does this now mean that MMS is going to start copying cams from Thunder Racing? Sorry man, I just couldn't resist.
