Default So who is gonna be the first to put on a set of C5R heads?

Just what the topic says.

Any idea what type of power a Super Stroker(why do I capitalize that LOL) could put out with a ported set of these, a custom intake and solid roller.

It's only around $2400 dollars for the bare heads. <img border="0" alt="[jester]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_jest.gif" />

I'm actuall surprised we haven't heard of somebody running these heads yet. Come on some of you guys with the big $$$$ try these suckers out. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

I think a guy here in town is putting a set on. I know for sure he has the C5R block, but I am not sure if he has the heads. If I know him, he has the heads too. ARE is building the engine and is almost complete.

Derek, do you have the heads as well?

Already talked to Derek. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> He doesn't have the heads. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" />

Damnit Derek, why didn't you get the heads. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Funny topic.

MTI should have a 434ci C5R solid roller setup completed next month. The heads are already ported and the custom intake is already built. The flow numbers on the ported C5R heads are just absolutely sick!

Stay tuned.... <img border="0" alt="[devil]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_devil.gif" />

Funny topic.

BeaSSt would have already done it, but everyone would have squawked about it not being an LS-1. He personally knows where 4 sets of heads and 3 blocks are, and they are ready for the taking.

Who is getting the heads? Who is getting the motor? = Colonel
Who builds the manifolds? = John Beck

Anything else y'all want to know?

BTW, BeaSSt will be back in action soon.

Questions:
Any Chevy dealer can get those C5R heads in?
What is their part numbers?
Most important, do they bolt to a regular LS1 block??
Cheers.. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Have any of the major shops made a contract or designed an intake manifold for these heads that will be relatively cheap (meaning under $1000)? I think that if the manifold was easy to get hold of, more people would try these heads and a lot of people would switch. The difference in the price stock heads to C5R heads is huge, but I'd say they would be worth it if they could outflow stage 1 or even stage 2 heads in stock form. With the exception of the intake, these heads would be as expensive as stage 2 ported heads. Lets see some testing with these and flow numbers direct from chevy and also fully ported.

Default Re: So who is gonna be the first to put on a set of C5R heads?

are these the heads or different again ?

The "Gen 3" V8 (RPO-LS1) engine is used in all 1997 and later Corvettes, and 1998 and later Camaros. A special manifold must be fabricated to use this head. Use with special cylinder block P/N 12480030. To compete successfully in GT-2 racing an aftermarket parts development started with the intent of providing the new GM powertrain LS1 engine a higher performance platform. The first component designed was the cylinder head with an intent to provide a part that was similar to the LS1 in appearance for sanctioning body approval. The cylinder heads include the following features: The basic height, width and attachment faces are in stock location to dowel and deck position. All dimentions and fasteners are metric. The basic valve angle was revised from 15 to 11 degrees to produce a smaller chamber. The valve angle also provides more space for aftermarket rocker arms. Jesel valve train systems has provided the current race pieces. The production individual pedistles are cast into a continuous feature tieing all the bosses together. The rocker cover hold down bosses are incorporated into the rocker arm plateau for the 4-bolt center hold down type cover (1999 model year). The chamber volume for the P/N 12480005 head is 38cc with flat faced valves of .75mm inlet and 1.5mm exhaust margins. The P/N 12480090 provides additional material for CNC porting and chamber shaping and starts at a volume of less than 30cc's. The inlet port roof and floor is raised and the attachment pattern is designed for a Kinsler fuel injection manifold. Inlet port is 57.15 x 36.58mm / 55.957mm dia. precision finished. The cylinder head is machined for larger diameter springs (41.5mm or 1.63" dia. machined pocket). The exhaust flange is identical with the production part. The exhaust port is stock size. The head is machined for a 12.712 / 12.688mm dia. valve guide bore. Rocker cover oil rail seal is a reverse tapered groove for a 3.2mm dia. (.125") free length "O" Ring.

Here are some pictures I snapped of the bare heads when they arrived. Contain your drool please. And YES, they bolt right onto the regular LS1 blocks. You just need a custom intake to use them.

Combustion Chamber
Exhaust Port 1
Exhaust Port 2
Intake Port 1
Intake Port 2

Lanky, if Douberly could have done a C5-R, why wouldn't he? I don't see any reason to build a personal car to cater an event that has no large payouts and is not even a series. The C5-R is still an LS1 based motor, just a BADASS one that most of us could never afford. If I listened to everyone my car would be a gutted out trailer ***** with a Powerglide, but its not <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Tony

I have seen those heads in person and they are INSANE...

I cant remember the exact CC number but I think the bare heads start around 16:1 compression with a flat top piston. They need a TON of porting but should make MAD power when finished!!
Cheers,
Chris

Hey Whatley...
Douberley isn't doing the C5-R right now because:
1. He wants #1 on NA LS-1 list right now. You can't tell me he wouldn't catch flak showing up with a C5-R motor.
2. He doesn't want to be a guinea pig with the first one; who knows what the future holds.
3. He is not in it for the money, just the pissing rights. If he was in it for money he would have bought the 4rd gen backhalf chassis in California and put a Reher-Morrison big block in the damn thing and be out a whole lot less money in the setup.

Have a great day! <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />

Alright y'all stop bickering, this is my thread. <img border="0" alt="[judgement]" title="" src="graemlins/gr_judge.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="gr_images/icons/wink.gif" />

So does anyone have any idea of what type of power you could make with a 400+ci motor, healthy hydraulic cam and a head that flowed somewhere in the 440cfm range.(That is a number I've heard several times for ported GT-2 heads) <img border="0" title="" alt="[Eek!]" src="gr_eek2.gif" /> Also what type of RPM would you have to turn with this monster head?

Tony - Keep everyone informed. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Will Race 4 Food - The part# is 12480005. They cost around $1200 per head. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Sad]" src="gr_sad.gif" /> <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

Strife - Those are the C5R heads alright. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="gr_stretch.gif" />

I have heard of an all C5R motor making peak HP at 6900. I am referring to the LPE C5R motor in that red 00 Z28.

2. Guinnea pigging is fun! I was the first to try a "big" 112 LSA cam in an LS1, the first to clear 400 rwhp with heads/cam, first M6 in the 11s NA on radials, first 382ci all-bore, and now the first to own an MTI 434ci setup <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" /> . Did I mention it was more exciting to try out new stuff? <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="gr_grin.gif" />
