So If im reading this right, my Z06 would like the "El Toro" cam with lg super pros, no cats and borla stingers and be reasonable to drive with a proper tune? And by reasonable, I mean as a dd and not have surging or bucking issues in parking lots and traffic? Im also ready to order a cam. What specs do I need to have it ground?

cam order sheet from TR

sticker on side of TR box assuming the cam doctor numbers
The "El Toro" is a 230/230 cam. Dual lobed XFI intake aned XER exhaust & When cut the XFI although advertised as 230 duration will come out as a 232 size, making it effectively a Reverse split cam.

It's been hinted that it might be worthwile to use a later IVC (even at the detriment of DCR) to gain top end power. It's obvious that a later IVC allows more filling time at higher rpms, what is not obvious is what rpm range equates to which IVC, and how this changes between a 370 and 427? Any insight to the non-obvious would be tramendously appreciated!

from PAtrickG regarding a 346:
"I like to decide where I want my motor to make peak power first. 6000 rpm peak, I'll choose a 40 degree IVC. For a 6300 peak, I'll choose more like 45 degree IVC (ABDC at .050")."

Some say that the IVC/intended peak power range are related to the percentage of cylinder that are left to be filled when the intake valve closes. In which case comments like Patricks above would hold true for all displacemnts.

from Kevin Shasteen on hybridz:
"If you want a streetable engine with a relatively smooth idle in the 700-750 rpm range you will need a cam that offers an IVC that leaves atleast 75-80% cylinder volume after the IVC.
If you had a Crank Angle Chart you would see that 75-80% Cylinder Volume would require an IVC somewhere in the 61-70* (@ 0.006”) IVC ABDC range[with a 230 @ 0.050" xer lobe this would be about a 41 IVC ABDC]."

Keep in mind that there is more than just IVC. Other valve events have to be accounted for as well a supporting hardware such as intake.

Obviously. I'm just trying to disect it down to one valve event at a time. And IVC seems like a good place to start. BTW your post count is INSANE! Thanx for all you do here!

Check out this link!! another guy with the MTI X1 230/227 reverse split just put down 411/390!!! stock 243 heads and LS6 intake. imagine if he had some ported LS6 heads or even some TFS 215 and a fast 92/92..thats big power for such a small cam. to prove again that reverse splits do work...or should i say retard, band -aid cams..LoL!!

Or it could have made more power with another cam. Weve made 430 with 228 duration cam on same stuff. Dont draw any conclusions from one guys dyno numbers. It doesnt mean anything.

Put a good head on it and FAST, and Id bet theres even a bigger difference

So i recently finished swapping a 01ls1/t56 into my s10 and im already debating on what cam to go with. I know the ls1 is gonna stay cam only so im leaning toward the tr230. With just bolt ons the truck went 12.6 at 110 last week. I was wondering do you think the tr230 would be enough cam to get me into the 11s or should i go bigger. btw the truck is my daily driver.

All depends on the exhaust system etc.

i was goin to go with that one mark but i'm going a different route down the road and i really don't want to do 2 cam swaps on the same engine in less than a year. the next LSX car will get the el torro cam or maybe something bigger spec'd by you

I'm seriously considering giving this "reverse-split" type of cam a shot here in the next month or so.

Edit: Nevermind.
