Default Rocker Arm Choices?

I'm starting to get a little more serious with the car (high rpm wise), and I'm considering upgrading my rocker arms. What are my shaft mount options?

I'd like the best price on something full roller and adjustable with a 1.7 ratio. I figure shaft rockers are $1000 and the traditional style crane rockers are $500?

Interesting article in this month's "Camaro Performer" (or something like that) about the advantages of bigger rockers. How they improve timing characteristics (and durations) at lift. +20 degrees at .400 lift. Significant hp pickup depending on the cam.

The Cranes aren't shaft-mount (stud-mount), but they seem to be holding their own...

Terry,

The three choices we currently have are the Jesel's, T&D's, and Crane's. For the money (approx. $750) I think the Jesel's or T&D's are the way to go. IMHO the Crane's aren't nearly enough of an upgrade over stock considering the cost. I personally went with the T&D's for my solid roller setup and with my valve/retainer/lock setup, Comp assured my my valvetrain is good for 9000+. Also, the T&D's do not require any additional machining to clear my 1.550" springs and retainers. T&D was also a great vendor to work with since they machined me a custom rocker pedestal so I could avoid using .375" of shims (my valves are set at a 2" installed height plus I have to use lash caps with the titanium valves.)

The T&D rockers should fit your needs... Jesel makes an adjustable shaft mounted rocker for the LS1, but they're a bit more expensive that the T&D's.

I'll be using the T&D's on my new setup.

I see TR has the T&D shaft mounts for $835. They look to be adjustable, 1.7 ratio, and in my price range! How much valve cover work do I need to clear them?

Terry,

You will either need valve cover spacers and some minor grinding inside the stock valve covers or a set of Jay Fisher/ARE/C5-R valve covers. I know TR has 2 sets of C5-R covers in stock 1 with logo and 1 without. They can probably give you a great deal on the plain set. Also, see this post: https://ls1tech.com/ubb/cgi-bin/ulti...c;f=1;t=005560

I have the Jesel S/S non-adjustable 1.7 ratio rocker arms on my motor. These fit underneath the 99+ valvecovers if you remove those sheetmetal baffles and grind down the high spots. Cost about $700.

I'd like a set of valve covers that allows the stock coil pack mounting. Will the CR5's do that for me?

How much are the SAM spacers? Do they use the stock Orings?

I don't know that anyone lists them on their website, but I do know that Jason used them on his TR solid roller setup.

Strength and reliability I would suppose... It's not uncommon for the stock rockers to break. Somehow I broke two of them with my old 220/224 low-lift cam (spit all the needle bearings out of them).

I like the idea of bulletproofing stuff when feasible...
