Default All parts are on their way...new motor should be ready soon

I placed the last order for shortblock parts today...I'll have everything I need for the short block by next weekend

I have aquired a low mile (~20K miles) shortblock that had a melted ringland...machine shop said the bore was perfect so I'm using this as a base for the buildup

This is a LOW BUDGET shortblock...I could've spent tons of money on the bottom end but I wanted to see what I could do inexpensively.

3 things I didn't skimp on:
1) rod bolts
2) timing chain
3) oil pump

I'm replacing all 3 known LS1 problems with quality replacements. ARP Pro2000 rod bolts, Katech ported oil pump and SLP (*cough*Rollmaster*cough*) double timing chain with nitrated gears

Other than that I bought a set of replacement GM pistons and rods from valvegod, Total Seal Piston rings from summit, Clevite 77 rod bearings from Summit, crane OEM replacement lifters from summit and Replacment main bearings from Katech. Due to the low mileage of the motor I'm not replacing cam bearings.

Top end of the motor will consist of GTP S2 5.3L heads milled .040-inches (2.02 intake) and a 232/232 .574/.574 112 camshaft

I'll build the bottom end next weekend and once the heads arrive (hopefully less than a month) I'll finish off the motor and install it

Exhaust will also be updated to Dynatech stepped headers, 3" collectors, 3" bullet mufflers off the collectors, dual 3" cutouts then a 3" y-pipe back to the borla via a 3" flowmaster y-collector I bought.

Hopefully it'll haul A$$

Can't wait to see it in action. Why the small cam?

cool looks good!! I would have went a little bigger on the cam

I take it will be mostly NA?

Do you think you'll have enough gear? hahaha!
Cheers,
Chris

I'm not lining up behind you in the staging lanes. The way you launch something has to give. I'm sure its going to fly. Good luck.

Congrats! Could you post close up pics of the chains & plate markings when you get them? I'd like to see exactly what they are using.

Well, those $$$$ GTP stage 2 heads certainly arent "budget".

Sounds like a real nice engine when you are finished.

Good Luck'

Sounds like a good setup Brian! Good luck getting together.

Ron, the heads are where the power is. I don't think Brian minds paying a few extra bucks for some extra hp/tq. I do agree that a good clean up w/ stock valves would be considered "budget" though.

Will this be the "biggest" hydraulic cam ever used in a street-driven 346ci LS1 motor?

FB, can you tell us what you dropped for $$ so far on just the parts you listed?

I'd just like to know for future reference when I do a rebuild.

Thanks!

PSJ had this same cam as well (this was the old GTP #4(?) cam).

I've heard of 242 duration cams in 346ci motors. As has been stated 224-230 seems to work best.

I ran the Lumberjack cam at one point in my 346ci motor:

236/240//111

And a early GTP cam:

232/232//116

Sounds like an awesome setup!! Good luck with it Try not to break anything... make sure people stand back a few hundred feet when you launch
