Many guys have busted auto trannies with a stock motor...maybe you are referring to a M6? Just about every H/C auto I know of has blown the stock trans in short order. Granted, the lighter the car the longer they will usually last. Point is, if you want H/C in a auto car, you need some tranny work if you want it to last. Even then you still might have issues if you let the temps climb too high...

I was also thinking of stripping some weight off soon to help keep my tranny and rear end from biting the dust. I was going to do the following:

K member/A Arms= 45lbs
Lightweight carpet= 30 lbs
Lightweight hood= 20 lbs
Racing seats= 40lbs or so??
Polycarbonate Windows= 66 lbs (but very pricey)

So about 200lbs of weight to shave and to keep the car looking very stock. Unfortunately, the cost of doing all these things is goind to be in the area of $3000

It hasn't helped much that I've added about 50lbs in stereo, and about 50lbs between my 12 bolt and suspension

I've tried to counteract that weight gain by removing my spare tire/jack, front sway bar, using eradispeed rotors, aluminum flywheel, and carbon fiber driveshaft, all of which have shaved back about 80-85lbs.

Our M6 trannies are not idiot proof. I'm a living testimony to that.

I have a cam and headers, 12-bolt, Cartek, Denny's, stock heads. That's second gear, and I think I did this during my burnout (burnout with linelock / ET Streets in second). Rest of the tranny is fine, tho. Hopefully I'll be putting it back together later this week.

I can say I've done both, tore up my tranny and destroyed the motor on NOS. But at least I had a 540 rwhp car for a day.

I can say with 99.5% certainty that my failure was due to the stock rods/rod bolts. They just don't seem to like ~7000 rpm.

I'm fixing the problem by installing an ARE 382 all-bore motor

stock motor, lid, exhaust, stock clutch... 3 trannies go bye bye! The first one died because of the stock shifter, kept mising 3rd gear and it bent the shift fork so 5th disapeered, then after that the rebuilder screwed up twice and it got stuck in 6th twice after racing. I don't think any of these were power related, but the stock clutch has since died

I want to make sure I don't go through the same pitfalls as some of you who have had problems.

I had over 800 passes on my car BEFORE my H/C package. Im a little nervous now. Just turned 50k. Other than several stock clutch replacements, no tranny problems thus far. I have a ripper shifter, I dont flat shift, but I do speed shift. If anything in my drive train lets goI cant bitch at all!!!Im certainly not saying it is the only oil thats any good, but all Ive ever used is Mobil 1 every 3k.BTW, Im puttig in a 12 bolt this weekend cause the rear is screaming like a banchee!!

Sorry to say but the tranny has held tight and the motor has beaten beaten senseless for 51k miles. Came to a light last night after rompin on it and the got a really nice sound of a bearing spinning. Not for certain that's the problem since we haven't ripped it apart yet but I'd bet it is. I'm guessing this car has 3000+++ 1/4 miles passes on it, atleast 1000 6000rpm launches so I'm sure that didn't help any either.

Time to pull it apart..I think George C summed it up best because this is exactly what happened to me.

Mine went when I had an injector lock on #7.. melted part of the piston to the block! The ringlands were gone as well.

Went with JE pistons, Manley rods, and total seal rings.

Car was perfect before then, and has been for the 600+ miles on the new block so far ( with exception to a bad head gasket )

I finaly blew an M-6 tranny last December.I think it had something to do with powershifting and a slave clyinder problem at the time.If you want to save your tranny, don`t race.

I just had my tranny rebuilt (synchros). I think it was because I missed some 3rd gear shifts before I had my ripper. I had my slave cylinder replaced also because it was going south. That could also be one reason my synchros went bad.

lid, FTRA, MAC's, orp, ripper.

I have broken 1 tranny, but I am currently working on my 2nd

I have lost one motor, but that was due to Nitrous use on a very worn out 60K plus stock shortblock.

All is well now tho

No problems here, car has 62K miles on it, had the H/C on the car for about 3k. My tranny is the only drivetrain item that I haven't had trouble with thank god. The CARTEK HYDRAULICS BLOW and are used, so I had to replace them with brand new revised GM hydraulics, and I just shattered 3 teeth off the ring gear in my rear.

Am on 2nd Engine ala Oil Pump failure.

Am on 3rd tranny (rebuilds).

Tranny probs were due to bad lower shifter mechanism on delivery from factory. Took 3rd rebuild 'til they found it. My M6 sucked until they found and replaced that. Started on delivery of car w/7 miles. Nightmare. All good now.
