How much compression can you run on pump gas if tuned correctly?

Topic says it all. How much compression ratio can you run and be safe. My thoughts are something that works on the street and possibly needing some race gas at the track. I am planning on spraying nitrous so the combo has to be N2o friendly. Thanks

It all depends. You can always lower timing to run 93 octane with high compression levels. It really depends on what YOU want out of the car.
For a high compression nitrous car, 12:1 could be ran pretty easy on a good tune and staying conservative on the timing with 93.

It also depends alot on the fuel/air ratio and what cam you're running. The answer could be 11:1 or it could be 12.5:1.

I have LS1edit so I can tune the fuel and timing for the combo. I am running a 230/230 .578 114lsa cam. How much compression can I run? Maybe mix some race gas or run straight race gas at the track.

I think it also depends on outside temperature... I personally wouldnt push the compression/timing threshold when nitrous is involved...

Yeah i wouldnt try to go more than 11.25. You never know if your corner station has a shitty shipment of gas which could screw you. If i were you i would stick with 11:1. The horsepower isnt worth the risk trying to squeeze a little extra power.

Well I know that you can run 11.5:1 compression on pump gas, but tuning is important.. The bigger the cam the more compression you can bleed off.. I am personally a firm believer that you do not have to go over 11.3:1 compression.. Just look at the people making the big power.. Most of them are running 11.3:1 and the ones that are over that are showing the same dyno #'s. Until we learn more about the ls1.. I would play it safe..

Talk to Fireball --- he's running pretty high compression on the street, and his dyno #'s are in the 440+ HP range. Of course, he has to take a big can of race gas with him to the dyno or to the track, and he has his own copy of LS1 Edit. It can be done.....
