Assuming stock gasket thickness( 0.054" ), LS1 heads( 67.3cc ), and flat top pistons: 12.1:1

Bigger cuts will drop you a lil bit. You can also put in a thicker gasket.

Damn, I didn't think about this. So, according to the calculator, if I have a 383 Lunati kit with 3.903" bore, 4.000" stroke, using stock GM gaskets and not milling the heads, I get 11.07:1 CR. Is that about right? Will that be ok on 93 Octane gas? Aside from changing the pistons, how can I lower the CR back down to 10.x:1?

[EDIT]:
Who sells a thicker gasket?

With compression of 11.0:1, you can run crapgas just fine even down at sea levels. Hell, I am running 12.6:1 compression and I can use crapgas 91. Of course I am a little higher up at 5800'

Slammed:

On my MTI 422 Ironblock LS1 that i just ordered with MTI, i was told by Jayson that MTI's strokers run with most success and peformance on 93 octance (that you and i have here in Chicagland) 11.25:1 Compression and that is what my BEAST will have.

Just talked to Chris @ Speed Demon and he informed me that the pistons are dished so I'll be OK.Should be right around 11.5:1.

Wow, this is a Corvetteforum reunion post isnt it?

I have the same name over here as well.

I would recommend going for as close to 11.0 CR as you can get.. Mine is ~11.5 and I feel it is a bit high because I have some detonation problems during summer temperatures on 94 octane..
