LS6 intake is a great mod for you at this level! And if you go with heads, it will help out even more. I highly recommend it.

Major diff is the cost --- the LS6 heads cost lots more.
They actually flow less at low lifts, but above .500" they're better.

I wouldn't recommend LS6 heads unless you're doing a ***** to the wall 346 (high rpm, solid roller, etc) or larger displacement. But for just a hydralic cam motor I'd probably go with a nice set of ported truck heads (5.3 liter heads seem to be very popular as they raise the compression w/o milling).
Now if you plan on getting a stroker someday, you could go ahead and get LS6 heads now, you wont lose anything, and then you'll already have them. If you go with a big bore in the future, you'll have to at least pull the heads and have the chambers opened up.

How much more hp will the LS6 heads give vs LS1 heads, assumming the same port job, etc...
To me, right now, its not worth the money. I have a local guy here who is a WIZ with heads who I may have port them. He has never done an LS1, I know they are not like stnd sbc's of old. Any tips?

Greg -
other members are correct in estimating 30-40HP gain with the rest of your combination. One thing I would point out is the SCCA CNC ported LS6 heads available at Scoggin-Dickey. These heads are milled for higher compression, and proven to flow over 310 at .550 lift.
Scoggin-Dickey sells these outright, with no core charge for about 1900.00 a pair, which is a killer deal on LS6 heads.

Greg,
I think you'd be in the 420 to 430rwhp range with heads.
With the TR-224 cam, heads with dual springs would probably give less hassle in the long run. TEA's 5.3 heads w/dual springs should give a solid gain for a decent price with the cam you have.
If you get a good set of heads and add another 30 to 40rwhp, that Z06 clutch may not last long.

My mods are in the sig. The last item I added were GTP SII heads. I showed 22HP increase on the dyno and 3/10ths at the strip.

Well i'm leaning towards the juice. Simply for the fact that I want to make darn sure i smoke an 03 cobra if i see one. 420-430 hp does not guarantee that. If they have done the right mods...wow. So 500 rwhp should be better. The question is, will the stock block (pistons) live assumming i'm not lean and rich?
