who wants a write up on flycutting??
I actually did a complete writeup, then went to bed. well, somehow I lost the whole F'n thing. and said screw it. I bet alot of people would benefit from it if you take the time to take all the pics as you go, and do a good writeup with illustrated pics. if you got the time go for it.

YES, finally someone stepping up to the plate. I would think alot of people could benefit a great deal from this especially myself. But, like one member already said it must be very detailed with good pictures of the whole thing. I voted YES to this but, it going to be time consuming for you to do this. But just imagine all the people you would help out

I shouldn't exactly say cutting...but in a way sorta shaving the piston in order to gain proper PTV clearance.
p.s. I gotta imagine that it has to weaken the piston some what.
I wouldnt recomend it with boosted cars. caus they run hotter chamber temps and would apply more press.. but aside from that, TONS of people have flycut the stock pistons, (one guy cut .140" I think was the deepest Ive seen) and not a single failure that Ive ever seen. plus, most cams wont require that deep of a cut. I cut .120" from the intake side but thats only cause I milled the head .033" and .040 head gasket AND 235 LSK lobe cam with 110 ICL. all that adds up to needing a deep notch.

Yes, but at the same time I'd be more interested in knowing how deep we can go on stockers. I mean how much does this weaken the piston? If I did it, could I still use N2O? Someone has already mentioned boost, nitrous does the same thing heat-wise. I'm only afraid to do it for this reason, I have no problem with the actual process.
I may have to change my cam choice (MS4 - Stg 1 LS6 heads). Currenly in the middle of the swap and having trouble deciding.

so it won't cause any harm will it?
recently went back in and notched mine. the first pic shows why i had to go back in. the silver looking slash on the piston is from the intake valve making slight contact. the next pic is of the finished product. the final pic shows the half-dollar that i used as a reference when cutting. i found the half dollar to be really easy to use when checking depth of the cuts.
