Default Help me build my boosted 383.. Need H/C Options.

The search isn't working for me.. Or give me options for the bottom end on a turbo'd 383..

I am in the market for a 383 short block. I found the vendor I want to buy from. Now I just need H/C ideas.. I am thinking 500-600 hp NA/ it will eventually see a turbo.

113, 114 LSA cam, but I like a lope.. I guess I can't have it on a Turbo engine combo. 225 AFR or TF heads, I know that much. Shooting for 10:1 or 9:1 compression. -What do yall think? How much boost will I be able to run on that setup?

This will be done BY about mid/early 08... the 383 at least.. give the turbo another 6 months to save for. Need fuel system ideas too.. 48lb injectors good? I'm no t up to date on the fuel systems for some reason.. was looking at the racetronix system.

Plans so far..

K member
383 SB
225 heads
90/90 intake
Will take to TSP for tuning... or use the EFI Live Auto tuner to get w/in range.
New Sways to finish the suspension
Strange 12b w/ 3.73's

What am I missing?

its gonna be hard reaching 500-600 rwhp. if i were you i would look in to something like a 402 (they are nice and light and very strong) or a 408 (built tough as **** u can boost or spray the hell out of it) i say this b/c the 346s are making just as much power (some not all) as the 383s. if your looking for high rwhp then i would get more cubes on your side. also your going to need a trans (th400 would be my choice) and with a rear end i would go 9 inch. your going to need more than a k-member for suspension. with h/c i would do a set of afrs and with the cam maybe go with something like a ms4 (proven cam) on a 110lsa or go big with something like a trex. iono just what i think. go into the dyno section and look at 383 dynos and u can see for yourself that they do not make all that much power. hope i helped a lil. good luck

^ THe 408 is an option... I'm not dead set on the 383...

The rest of my suspension is about done... All I'm missing is the Sways... I was going to get the K member to allow more room for the turbo(s).

I have a built to FK T56 as it is, Micronite C/F 4B package 700hp capable trans and clutch right now. . I don't like autos and this will not be a strip only car.. IF it WERE a strip only car I would do a built 4 speed, I understand that. The built auto's are really good for the strip.

First off I don't no a whole lot about turbos but I do know some things. I'm pretty sure you have to have a k member to run a turbo setup due to piping. I would just stick with the 346 and spend your money on better parts. The 346 is putting out good numbers on boosted applications. The heads you're thinking of sound in the right ballpark. I've heard 6.0 heads are also good. I have no idea why you would ever want to put an MS4 in a motor intended to see boost. That makes absolutely no sense to me. The 90/90 is a waste of money. Just stick with the LS6 intake. I've only corrected a few of the little mistakes. Hopefully a turbo guru will chime in and steer you in the right direction. If you haven't already, I would post this in the forced induction forum.

^ I'm going to go with the 408... Slightly bigger and can apparently take a BEATING.

I don't think the 90/90 would be a waste on a boosted 408 running 20 PSI of boost.. That's exactly what that manifold would be good for. That engine will be flowing a LOT of air. The 90/90 actually picked up 8hp over the LS6 on a MS4 H/C swap on a stock 02 LS1. Granted it's not worth the extra $700 OVER the price of an LS6 intake, but for my future application, it will be golden.

The engine should be had by Jan 08. The turbo, ive it another 6-8 months. I'm doing my home work now, also talking w/ another member who is doing his short block shopping. We're in the process of finding the best deal w/ the best parts. -Isn't that what it's all about??

I think that if you do further research you'll see that a lot of the turbo guys aren't running the fast due to a strength issue when boost is used. The LS6 is said to be stronger and then of course theres the sheetmetal ones but they're expensive. Here's a recent thread in the forced induction section about this issue.

Not trying to prove you wrong, just trying to help a little. Good luck with the build.
