Think it's worth it or another "Tornado" product?

Probably does more than the "tornado" but isnt going to be even a somewhat necessary precaution.

They have 1 in Jeg's catalog now too. I can see how it could possibly help if something started happening & you were gettin metal shavings in your oil. It would really not be needed, but could at some time prove to be a good cheap investment against letting shavings thru..

I would see that being used for an initial break in of a new motor. I think it would serve a better purpose then.

You could always just run a filter like this that has a magnet built into the filter. sorry for the big pic.

Yeah its a little pricey but you never have to buy another filter again. I dont think its over priced for the quality though. It filters all the way down to 8 microns and provides 7 times more flow than regular paper filters. That and its enviromentally friendly.

Magnets are very good. In fact, so good that GM puts one on the tip of every oil drain plug.

Everytime I change my oil, I find some minor metal on the magnet, so that is proof they are working. A small amount of metal that is not trapped by the filter can do HUGE damage to your motor and bearings.

Therefore, the $10 oil filter magnet seems like very cheap insurance to me.

I used to rebuild auto trannies in the 70s ....back then every manufacturor included a magnet in the transmission pan. At the standard 30K fluid change, you would see lots of metal shavings stuck to the magnets. ...just normal wear and tear that would casue havic if allowed to get into the valve body.

Sounds like it could just be a nice cheap form of insurance. $10 isn't that much if you consider buying a new motor.

It uses a Surgical Stainless steel mesh filter that filters down to 8 microns. It is the same style filter that Hospitals use to filter blood. Up to 7 times more flow then a typical paper filter. All you do is take it apart and clean it when you change the oil. That makes it enviromentally friendly, no more filters to throw out. A super strength nickel-plated neodymium rare earth magnet is installed in the top of the element for magnetic pre-filtering.

I've used 'em for years. Now we just need to find a way to capture the non-magnetic particles that get through the filter.

The best way to reduce engine wear is to install a pre-oiler & limit the RPM's &/or the time spent @ high RPM's.
