Default Opinions on the tsp 228r and my setup

Looking at getting the tsp 228r for my birthday (May 24) and just wanted to get some opinions on this cam and how it will match my setup. Car is a 2001 z28 with 3.73 gears, 3000 stall, full exhaust. I will be putting in an ls6 oil pump, ls2 timing chain, 7.4 hardened pushrods, and springs to match the cam. How does this combo sound? Still trying to decide between the 112 and 114 lsa since my car is a daily driver and i don't want to sacrifice driveability too much.

You'll be fine with that cam as a daily driver. I like it although I have been considering a custom cam.

She will run fine in traffic and not give attitude. Sounds pretty good, too. Has a nice rough idle, though not anywhere near as choppy as the Torquer V3 I used to run.

With your gears it will be fun.

Mine starts right up although she does hunt for an idle for a bit.

The 228R is a nice cam overall...not too big...not too small.

You will be fine with the 112 lsa, mine drives great, a good tune makes the difference.

We really like the 228R camshaft. Joseph recently installed a 228R camshaft and PRC 5.3l heads on a friends car with really awesome results! I think it gained 90rwhp & went 11s in the 1/4 at 6000 ft of air!

I know I'm bringing up an oldish thread, but I was wondering if the car was an M6 or A4?

OP said he had a 3000 stall so A4 I would still go 112 LSA and consider 2 degrees of advance.

Actually, he quoted me asking if the car we worked on was M6 or A4....I responded that it was an M6...completely different car than the OP is referring to

Yeah I was asking Matt. Thats real impresive, I live at about the same elevation and its hard to get down in the 11's. I would love to have a similar set up.

I have that cam and love it. I have run a best of 11.74 @ 115 so far and it made 400 rwhp and 375 rwtq cam only. Has good street manners and a nice lopey idle. Cam should work well with your combo. I will be adding PRC Stage 2.5 5.3 heads, Fast 92mm setup, and an ASP underdrive pulley soon. Hoping for 430 rwhp.

Get the 228R on the 112 LSA. It will give a great sounding idle you will love. I have seen this cam preform very well at the track.

My 228 is money. Its a custom ground on a 113 lsa, and it makes great power throughout the rpm band and decent peak numbers. All my mods are in my sig.
