Woohoo! 87 Octane + 110 degree weather + 10.8:1 compression
My car is hating me right now.
The only gas available in Phoenix right now is 87 octane due to our main supply pipe from Texas breaking. The fun part is the 30 minute lines since more than 2/3 of the gas stations are completely out of fuel.
Another 2 weeks minimum before we get Premium back
Anyone want to get a pool going on how long it'll be before my engine goes ??
So far the car is running OK I guess, I'm only pushing it in the mornings when its cooler outside, but I'm still going to be easy on her until the premium rolls back in.
I can't believe we are so depended on one pipeline...kinda reminds me of how dependent everyone was on the power grid that shut down the NE USA for a while.

Yeah this is crazy. I heard that things will be like this for at least another couple of weeks too. I'm glad I filled up my daily driver on Saturday.

It you don't have a means to alter the programming, you could flip the MAF around backwards to richen the WOT mixture up and lower the timing advance just a bit. Sounds crazy but it works.

Let me tell you Matt, you are braver than I to be running 87 octane in your car. I stopped driving mine last week when I ran out and switched over to Bryce's T/A since he has gas and is in WA, shhh Anyways, I am down below a quarter tank now and gotta fill up. ****. Looks like I will be springing for half 87, half trick 101 unleaded. No way in hell I would run straight 87. Gotta go on the prowl tonight looking for a gas station that doesn't have a half mile long line and some decent gas.

Go to Lowes or Home depot and get some Xylene. Mix at 1 gallon to 5 gallons of gas. That will get you at least 3.0 points of Octane. So 97 would go to around 90-91...

verbs ....
You don't have anything to worry about. Just keep your foot out of it and you could get by with 80 octane! No boost and 1/4 throttle operation is easy.
Drive it like your grandpa's Buick and octane is not an issue.
Certainly you can drive that car "sane" for a couple of weeks. You have nothing to worry about.

We still have some premium out in Gilbert...I moved becaue I was sick of living close to Nic and Bryce I don't have competition out here.
Mine is parked for now anyway. Too bad my daily driver (RSX type S)still takes premium...just not at 10mpg.

I guess Flagstaff gets fuel from other pipelines. But nearly $2/gal for 91 octane has been the norm this summer.

Thats cheap gas out there. You will laugh at the prices here in the UK. 90pence per litre, thats £4.08 GBP per gallon which is $6.83 US dollars per gallon.

If you have not altered the low octane timing tables with ls1edit the PCM will take care of you until you get some good gas. Every time you start the engine the pcm does a octane test and sets timing accordingly. Most likely you only have about 18 degrees of timing now. Once you get good gas pull the pcm batt fuse for a few minutes to do a reset. If you've been in your pcm with ls1 edit all bets are off.
