Default MSD Coil Packs - worth the $$ ?

Need to get a set of coil packs for my crate LSx. Are the MSD packs worth the money? I am staying NA 454.

They are a waste of money... Use late model LS3/7 GM OE coils.

General consensus is that they look cool, but they're junk. Lots of people use truck coils or late model coils for "an upgrade"

No, and hell no.

I went through 2 sets with 6 failing, causing extreme misfires.

Noticed no improvement over the stockers on my NA 412 LS2.

Currently using stock LS7s.

They are junk. I had them and had 2 fail within 1200 miles. Switched to stock LS2 coils and have had no problems.

Man, the cost of the LS2/3 OE coils over here are about the same as the MSD!!

Not sure how much they are over in the US, my price would convert to about $800 US for a set of 8.

^^Well, look at it this way, one buys you nothing but trouble, while the other, like its not even there.

Another source would be a used set, @ CorvetteForum For Sale Section, I see it from time to time - might be a good alternative, even factoring in the postage to down under?

HTHs.

i found this info out:
http://www.standardbrand.com/
standard makes 2 different style coils for the ls2
round and square. the part numbers are uf-413(square) and uf-414(round)
there is a company whose name is similar to a cliff and the word racing is added to it, and they had them for $66 and $61 usd repectfully. or you can google the part numbers...

Yes it does seem the consensus is that the LS2/3 OE coils are the ones to use. In my case I am hiding the coil packs in a row at the rear of the engine on top of the transmission bell housing as there's a fair bit of room, so as they wont be seen it doesn't really matter how good or bad they look.

Even the OE packs are expensive here in Australia, about $850 US.

Can anybody suggest an on-line store I could order OE coils by mail order at a good price?

I'd consider them for a car that will be in car shows, very low miles driven, they look good in parking lot with the hood up. Sometimes I think that is only reason why people buy them

I am assuming you two boys are talking about the Accel ones? I have to buy a set no matter what, as my crate engine didn't come with any.

So I am more looking for a good option, one that will perform well, but not be too expensive for no performance gain.

Actually I've only seen the MSD ones at car shows and they do look sweet. they are always on LS motors that are decked with FAST intakes, NOS kits, etc.

First time I've seen the The Accel ones and they look great! I'd think about a set if I needed to replace my stockers! errr, just saw they are for LS2's and up
