Default LS7 Cylinder Heads from West Coast Cylinder Heads

We just received a set of LS7 cylinder heads back Richard at West Coast Cylinder Heads. I had been talking to him over the coarse of a few weeks about what the best direction to take a set of these heads would be. They are going on the 2008 Z06 some of you might have seen in our video links. The car came to us with 590miles on it and a baseline 428rwhp and 406rwtq on our Mustang MD-1100SE dyno. So far we’ve installed a custom cam, Kooks off road headers/x-pipe, and Vararam CAI. That package raised the power to 526rwhp and 473rwtq for a total gain of 98hp, and 67lbs/tq. We have also installed a Breathless Performance CF front air dam, rear diffuser, and CG rear wing. We will be installing the heads on the car shortly, then throwing it back on the dyno for more results. After that, the intake will be ported and we will be testing the car once again.

I just wanted to take the time to share some pics of Richard’s work.

Looks good. Thanks for posting the pictures. Richard is doing a set of LS7 heads for me as we speak also. We are just waiting on the valves.

Are those aftermarket valves? They don't look stock. If they are aftermarket, who makes them and if the intakes are titanium,do they require the use of lash caps?

The intake valves are stock LS7 valves, the exhaust valves have been changed to one piece Stainless pieces.

I like being suspenseful , we'll see if we get the power gains we're expecting once we get the car back together.

Why switch to solid exhaust valves? Now your exhaust valve is heavier than your intake valve!!

The two piece ones have been known to fail in higher horsepower/rpm applications. I'd rather have a slightly heavier valve than a valve that breaks.

Same has been said for the stock Ti intake valve as well. What are you doing with the motor? Is this a NA application?

Hey, can you post the flow #'s and all the other numbers pertaining to the way they were flowed?

Hey Mike!

We have been using quite a few of Richards LS7 heads as well with great results. On an average we have seen about 30-38 RWHP gains. We have several head/cam LS7s in the 578-585 range with torque in the 490-512 range.

They work great!

Those are for the LSW heads, not GM LS7 heads, unless he runs the same program on the LS7 heads?

Howard,

Great the hear! That would put it right where we want, 560rwhp on our Mustang dyno. I definitely plan on working with Richard again.

I have heard of the two piece valves in the L92 heads breaking. A racer in Kansas was telling me that they have taken a dump in STOCK application. But I haven't heard anything about the LS3 or C5R/LS7 valves doing that, much less the titanium units. They are designed for endurance racing and such. This issue may be related more to production flaws than design. NDT testing of the pieces may clear up the picture a bit, as well as provide good stock pieces for use in high performance application. After all, the stock C5R, LS7, and LS3 valves were designed to be light weight performance pieces and lighten up the valvetrain tremendously.
Also putting the heavy *** valves and double/triple springs in to compensate puts more stress on the whole system entirely. The valves may live. But the seats and other stock parts are going to be HATIN it. -especially with the high lift cams we KNOW we like to run. lol
