Engine Lease Warrenty
Hi Jake, I believe you are here to help members as am I.
The information question : Many Racing Engines are Leased with extra charges for improper operation. The operational methods ARE listed in the engine contract. I am not sure this is public knowledge, may be protected data.
My ECU has data logging AS do most engine controllers with switch on recording stored in Flash, protected Flash.
Thus Oil Temps, Water Temps, RPMs are STORED with a Time Stamp.
The cost of this type of contract is over 100K, who would not follow the instructions ?
I follow Jake's instructions at a MUCH LOWER cost, do you ?
Lance

Its funny but my break in method was more of an accident.
First motor swap I ever did. I had forgot to hook up the alternator and a vacuum line, so it started, idled up, settled down, died with this god awful shrieking noise, so I thought the motor had locked up. I was pissed so I walked away hour later, I turned the key and the motor cranked, so I was like "yes!" I started it again and it did the same thing. Then I realized what it was, so I let it cool and connected the missing stuff. Then I started it up and let it get good and warm idling and changed the oil. Then after letting it cool, I took it out and left it in second gear and pulled 20-50 mph at 3/4 throttle and coasted down in gear. Did this about twenty times. Mainly just to load up and seatvthe rings real good. Changed oil again and just drove it. Oil changes at 500, 2000, 5000.
Later on when talking to someone about it they said that was a text book break in. So that's just how I do them now.

Well, here is some work i've been able to do. Worked the idle down to about 875, good and stable, fine tuned return to idle, and did some work off idle. I can't really do too much more until I get it rolling and can get some load on the engine, but this thing is really falling into place nicely.
Here's a short 30-second vid with some throttle stabs and return to idle. I'm really happy with it. Just getting more antsy to drive it.

This motors nickname is “Horse ****”. Similar to what ford does with their engine names like coyote. We’re not sure if Darth likes the name at this point, but that’s it’s name

Guess it's better than horse vagina -- loose and sloppy engines are our thing
