Thats the million dollar question..... Engine machinist told me a few he recommends, said hes seen a few lifter failures on same builds that when changed to high zinc imported oil those failures stopped....

You can put the cover on crooked and the cover will stick down on one side or the other .180” or so. Level it at the rails and your golden. I have an alignment tool set but I’ve never used them. The LS is almost foolproof for seal alignment if you install hub or complete damper before tightening cover bolts.
I got your PM, but I haven’t had time in the last couple days to get you an answer. I haven’t been in the shop, just too busy with work.
Thanx for the that info, ive done it a few times and didnt hv an issue . Timing cover on , dont tighten bolts, install harmonic dampner, tighten bolts, to easy... I wont be doing engine for a few weeks yet, cars goin in for full interior re-do

This is what we use. After spraying the **** out of it for a season the bearings and everything still looked brand new. It has extra zinc in it. You might want to check it out.

Penrite has .168% zinc and .096% phosporus... these 2 together make up zzdp antiwear A good racing oil will have the same or more phosporus and you cant have really good anti wear without phosphorus.... Thats how im reading it anyway... Penrite racing is a good oil for production engines , its not for built engines

Could you also tell me about this Nulon Racing oil?
Apparently it's better than the penrite.

I used the Br30 on the dyno and run the 0-40 stuff now. The driven oil is pretty much the best to run in any LS but it is spendy!

That driven oil is expensive.
Its more than twice as expensive as the stuff i use.
Would you even notice anything?
Or is it just better at higher temperatures?

Its all about the ZZDP, anti wear.... Read any article about oils for built engines, higher spring pressures, lifters, rockers, cam...
As i said my machinists told me of a few different builds he'd done where there was lifter failure, rebuilt engines and lifters failed again, then changed to a proper racing oil, and problem solved. I dont know about you but the way i look at it is " do i spend an extra $150 to potentially save my $30+k engine from future failure"
