What lifters have you guys run in a 408 stroker build? I have so many conflicting opinions. Some people are telling me to run Caddy lifters while others say link-bars are a must and I should look at Morel 5290 at a minimum. I am leaning towards the Johnson 2116, however, this would set my build back a few months just to gather the funding. I am in no rush, but I want to know what other people have ran in their builds. This motor is a 12.0.1 compression motor and the cam is .634/.629 lift.

There are plenty of stoker builds out there with LS7, and other factory style lifters. I understand the lifter bar argument in order to stabilize the lifter and prevent rotation, but is that enough to justify the added cost. That'll depend on you. Personally, on my 408 with a bit smaller cam, ill be running Morel 7717 lifters in new trays The set up has held up in motors making far more power than mine, so for me it'll be just fine.

Lifters have no "idea" of how much power the engine they're in is making. What DOES matter is how high it is revving on the regular...

Morel-5290 specs shown as 6,500 rpm max open pressure #380
I'd probably get a different Morel liftet for Ultimate Valve Springs. Depending on how the springs are set up if the spring pressure is in bounds the Johnson 2116's seem OK.
BTR Ultimate Valve Springs capable of 9,000 rpm
Spring specs are as follows:
•200 lbs @ 1.700"
•500 lbs @ 1.050"
•Coil bind @ 1.000"
I'd ask Cam Motion about their lifters before deciding.

hello
Is this, however, sufficient to warrant the additional cost? That is all up to you. Personally, I'll be using Morel 7717 lifters in new trays on my 408 with a smaller cam. The setup has held up in engines with significantly more horsepower than mine, so it should be OK for me.

Look into max spring pressure for any given lifter. This should a ballpark on what lifter to be use. I would check with CamMotion as stated
