Default Pilot bearing question for LS2

Anyone seen this yet? Got an eagle crank in this LS2 we are building and the stock pilot bearings dont fit. They just slip in and rotate around. Anyone got the answer for this?

Yup, just one other thing holding me back from putting this damn motor in.

Great!!!I have the exact same problem you do.I bearing just falls into place.I called the place I bought the kit from and they are in the middle of contacting Eagle to find a solution. He said that they probaly make a bushing that will fix the problem.I'm waiting to find out.

Yes, that was me. What we did for the pilot bearing today was just an old trick one my my friends told me to do. We took the bearing and brazed the outside with tin solder. So now it has another layer of metal around it and should help it snug itself right in there. Will let you know in the morning.

It worked freaking perfect. It just needed a few thousandths more and wammo, tight fit.

make sure u let ur customer know

What happens of the brazing falls off or something happens and the pilot bearing comes out... there goes is drivetrain. And your responsible. At least if u let ur customer know and he doesnt want to wait for a new crank he can sign a waiver.

If it was my motor I would rather have the right crank specs.

My customers know everything I do with their cars, matter of fact he was here so I could show him.

Adding tin for fitment is not something new for builders and has been done for years as a fix. When you use solder or tin, you are applying at an extramley higher heat than what the crankshaft will see. So no need to worry.

I also think waiting for another motor is not something he is wanting to do at this point. The motor is fully built and ready to go in. Thats when we ran into the pilot bearing issue. Trust me, its tight in there, I had to use a mallet and an installer to get it in, so I consider it like stock now.

Rick....That's a sweet idea and thinking of doing it my self.Your not concerned about getting the barings real hot or warping. You think the grease melted out of it.You think silver solder would work just as good. This is the only thing holding me up too.
I need to get this motor in the RX7 NOW!

Because the bearing needed only a few thousandths to make it snug and when you braze solder tin all the way around it, its centered. You just needed enough to have some friction between the sides. Its not alot.

THe tin solder take alot of heat, more then the motor will ever see to melt it again. So it should hold good. Bring it by if you need me to do this for you.
