Dyno Results: SAM's 500" ERL Sleeved LS2 (Over 700 hp on 93 Oct) *Dyno Graphs Inside*
Once again, a BIG thank you goes out to ERL and Wiseco. They have been a blast to work with on this project. As some of you know, here at the School of Automotive Machinists, we were constructing the World's FIRST 500 cubic inch LS2. With ERL sleeves and deck plates and intake spacers and awesome internal pieces from Wiseco and Carrillo, this has became a running reality. Now for the good stuff.
Naturally Aspirated:
703 hp @ 6,100 rpms
655 lb ft tq @ 4,900
N/A pulls were on 93 Octane!!!!
On NITROUS:
922 hp @ 6,000
906 lb ft tq @ 4,800
We did have low bottle pressure on this pull and we tested on 113 octane, JUST to be safe. It was jetted for a 250 hit. (Bottle Pressure hurt us)
Here are some basic stats on the motor itself:
Bore - 4.2025" Outfitted with Custom Wiseco 26cc Dish Pistons
Stroke - 4.500" = 500 Cubic Inches
Connecting Rods - 6.800" Carrillo Billet A-Beam
Cam - Custom ground Comp Cams Hydraulic Roller (250/250 @ .050) 112 LSA
Heads - LS7 heads that have been cleaned up
Intake - Factory LS7 Intake - 42# injectors from GM (60#'s of Fuel Pressure)
Nitrous Kit - NOS LS2 Throttle body kit (jets from 75 to 250)
This is hosting ERL's Deck Plate and Sleeving they are offering to help allow us to reach the 500 cubic inch limit.
***I will have a graph up later this week. We just finished the dyno session so bear with us. We have a nice tune on the car to keep it safe. Nitrous pulls had 12.0:1 A/F ratio. Might be looking for more power sooner. Just wait till we have a full bottle and try a few "other" things
Also: Testing was done on our Superflow 902 Engine dyno. Motor will go into our 98 Z28 for track testing.

Yea, I am in the same boat as you Brian. Right now we have a few more pulls and things to do and then we will drop it in the car. Going to be interesting to say the least.

Those guys at S.A.M. are good about not showing their cards -I can't wait to see what the car runs and what the plans are for the motor.
As for the cam and manifold combo, ERL wanted to release the street motor with commonly a available manifold that's a "known quantity" and in a "state of tune" that the "average street guy" could put in his car and drive to the grocery store. The Race stuff comes a little later.
ERL has several different grinds available for the street versions of the motor. Basically a "butter smooth idle" cam in the upper 220's, a blower cam in the lower 230's, a "Noticible Idle" cam in the upper 240's, and a slightly racier version in the low 250's. Even the "250's" cam has good idle vaccuum, and phenomenal torque at 3000rpm. They'll be posting a sound bite of this thing once the engine's in the black car--the cubic inches soak up the cam pretty well. All of these cams have very aggressive lobe acceleration rates and lift numbers that will work with with commonly available valvetrain components.
The Race Motors will be done custom cam by custom cam. I'm sure S.A.M. has something in mind already

As Brian said, we are not done yet. We have a safe tune in the cars and there are quite a few differences from these other cars putting down 60X rwhp.
We still are yet to set it on kill. We are going to play with the oiling, heads, cam selections, and a few other things. Give us some time. This is only the beginning.

I think the really impressive thing is that the motor made 703 hp at only 6100 rpm...LOL...that's awesome! Kudos to Jud and the gang.

Oh we will not be spinning this one very high. (Very long stroke and High Piston Speed) I was probably referring to the C5-R motor. That will see a tad more RPM

Chris, I honestly do not know what this package will run money wise. Hopefully ERL will come in and let you know an estimate.
Power wise, there is a little left in it. The compression is right at 10.9:1 currently.

We ran the hydraulic roller because this is going to be on of the pump gas "street friendly" motor packages ERL will offer.
There will be one optioned with a smaller cam and some that are more aggressive. If we would go all out, the sheetmetal will be on top with a 105 accufab TB, with matching "BIG" solid roller and hogged out ls7 heads
Cliffs: We ran the small hydraulic because it was want ERL was wanting to showcase first. Baby steps, especially because this is the first one in the world.
