Which Stroker Longblock to buy for $8-$10,000
Hey guys I have found the amount of money I can use for a longblock, as it says in the title I have $8-10,000 but would like to stay closer to the $8,000 side. Will I have enough to land me in the 550+rwhp range N/A? I am going to do quite a bit of street driving but want a large cam also. And no N20 for me I want it all N/A. Lets hear what ya got off the top of your heads. If I need more money I will wait and save but I want it really reliable and be able to beat on it one day and go for a nice calm drive the next!!

Scoggin-Dickey can have one of their big-inch strokers (~$5,000.00) on the truck to you in a couple of days. Go down the block from them to Texas Speed and they can send you some ported L92 heads (~$1,700.00). Save the extra money for ARP bolts, the L76 intake, fuel rails, etc. Livernois also sells some nice L92 heads.
That's how I would spend the money.

HKE complete 408 long block will be under 8k. In fact, its $7150 with ETP Stage 3 5.3L heads that flow very similar to their ETP 225 heads. With an HKE 246/248 113+3 cam, it should put down 525-550rwhp depending on compression and headers/intake used.
For another $1000 or so, you can have Morel lifters, Manton pushords, Jesel roller rockers, and Callies forged crank/rods. Not that it makes any more power, but those are nice upgrades.

Havn't dynoed one yet, but taking the information we've gathered from 427 builds we have done this year, no reason why it can't produce good numbers.
This motor combination is taylored around street driving, track use and should still be running with usual maintenance 5 years from now.
If it were to be nitrous motor I would change around a few parts, that would add to the cost.

I'd Call Livernois, they did an engine for one of my friends, Iron block 404, stage 3 l92's, stage 3 l92 cam, IIRC it was right around 9k. It whould be right @ that hp level. They had an in house car do 520 on less compression w/ a stage 1 cam

With the money you are looking to spend you could purchase a TSP 418 L92 Long-block. It includes a fully forged rotating assembly in a new GM L92 block with a set of PRC Ported L92 heads. The last one we had on the dyno with one of our mild custom grind cams went 570 RWHP! If you are looking to go bigger, we offer a 454 LSx short-block as well! We will have one on the engine dyno in the coming weeks!
There are also plenty of other combinations we could put together for you to meet your needs. We have several short-blocks on the shelf that can be leaving to you the next day! Check us out! http://www.texas-speed.com/shop/cate...?MID=1&catid=3

There are 3 Shops i would trust to build me a 10k motor vie mailorder.
1) Kurt Urban @W2W
2) Speedinc
3) Erik Konig @ HKE
In no specific order...
Sometimes your best bet is to find a local shop who cannot afford to screw-up and replace a 10k motor, those are the guys that will check everything 30 times before final assembly and will keep meticulous records of the tolerances built into the motor.
I have had 2 motors go bad from a very large vendor on this board before i learned my lesson, both times the vendor did nothing to correct their mistakes.
Motor 1) Wrong rings 1.5mm,1.5mm,3mm in a 1/16, 1/16, 3/16 groved pistons, the rings never seated and burned 1qt oil per 1k miles it was pulled and torn down at 1k
Motor 2) No thrust bearing installed on the crank, it walked and scored all the bearings. motor ran for 15 min, put the clutch in to put it in gear oil pressure started dropping and motor was gone.
