Default same part # for all ls1-ls6 oil pumps?at GM

Hey guys, ordered my ls6 oil pump yesterday and the ls1 -ls6 had the same part # is this because gm figured since the ls6 was supperior to the ls1 they would offer just this pump as the only alternate?Even the parts guy couldent figure,But like he said,It would have to be the ls6 because if it were reversed the ls1 pump would starve the ls6 moter So to speak LOL Let me know whats up guys,if any of you know Thanks ED BARNAT

LOL, an LS1 pump would starve the LS6? haha.

GM superseded the LS1 pump part number to the LS6 pump. It was likely because they were no longer producing LS1's for production cars, and the LS6 pump could be made more affordable in larger volumes.

Lets make it real simple, this pump, 12586665, will service all LSx based engines from 1997-2009, except the LS7 for obvious reasons. Period, no version is superior or inferior to the other in regards to the pump.

If you go to your dealer and ask for an LS1 pump (why would you, SDPC can save you money on it? ) you'll get the 12586665 pump.

Like Matt said, the is only one pump. You could ask for a LS6, LS3, LQ9, LQ4, LS2, LS1, I could go on but I hope you get the idea, they are all the same. I will try and remember to double check the 17801830 on Monday, but just because there is a different number doesn't mean there is a different pump. GM likes to make new numbers, there is often production numbers and GM Performance parts numbers but the fit/form/function of the parts are the same.
