Default Removing Cowl Weather striping

Any negative side effects? Anyone with a logger pick up lower IATs or ambient temps? Is it worth having it off of there?

I don't think you would see any benefit by removing the weather stripping. I think if you will take it off you will just run into trouble as it will let a lot of water into the engine bay.

I've had mine off for maybe 2 years? No problems. I followed Lew's (06monteSS) lead. I don't think he ever put his back on.

I have an 05 GXP and have had my WS off for almost 2 years. I have bad winters here and I never have had a problem. Not to mention the recent Monsoon rains we just had a couple weeks ago. I Know it lets heat out since there is about 1/2 in gap between the car and hood with it off. I know a few people that have done this besides myself.

Really, how much heat escapes from removing the strip???not understanding the purpose of doing this with such a small area, does really help take away the heat away from the intake???

it's that looong single strip of weather-stripping that runs across the back of the engine bay...

just pull up on it and it comes off... you can always press it back on at a later date if you needed/wanted to...

I agree. It's so easy getting that stripping on and off, I'm just pulling it off on Friday night and putting it back whenever. It can't RAISE temps lol

yeah Buff I remember when we discuss this a while back!!

I too, removed the crappy K&N trim cause it just kept peeling and tearing up, but not this(Cowl) weather stripping!! LOL!! The cowl weather stripping is tuff & perfect for those who have had the K&N trim-tearing-drama!! The only thing is that once removing the weather stripping on my Crusader, you can hear the motor a little more but nothing annoying.

I have done this before on other cars - this was a good reminder to do it on my Impala. So now the strip is on my bench.

I wonder if it helps aero since there is usually a lot of pressure at the base of the windshield and now some of that air can escape to the engine compartment. Back in the day when the carb was in the middle of the engine bay that was the whole point of cowl induction - was it not?

Last Sunday I figured out one possible drawback to removing the strip. As the heat cycles through that gap it gets sucked in to your ventilation system. It was 71 degrees outside and all this warm air would start pouring in when you would wait at a traffic light. It was not heat like the heater was on, but maybe 10 degrees warmer than the outside air. I'm sure I could override it with the A/C.

I'll have it out whan I need to let off that heat. In the meantime I reinstalled it.
