Hi. I'm new to the forum. I have an '07 Impala SS. I've put a K&N cone filter on. What other 'basic' mods can I do? How loud are the flowmasters? I like the sound of a (hush my mouth) Mustang GT and don't want it too loud as it is a family car. How about engine programming? Any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm a recent Mopar convert and new to Bow Tie. Thanks.

So, Lets talk warranties with our up an coming head project.

I called my hometown GM dealer and talked with the Service manager. I asked him if putting headers on my car will void the warranty. He said short answer YES.

His long answer was you put headers on it, something breaks, I DONT CARE bring it in ill warranty it. But, I cannot do that seeing that i will be moving to Penacola FL soon, and hes up in North Eastern Ohio in Lake County.

HE also stated that, once you bring your car in for work, and you have headers on it that any dealer will up load your info on the system that the car has been modified. With that you will go to any dealer and they will automatically turn you away because of the data base system those *********** have.

SO, for all you fellas out there looking to get the headers beware. I plan on getting them, and if all else fails, ill take the extra time to swap my manifolds back on then take her in if its something I cant fix.

hopefully money works out so i can get them but ill just sit on them which is going to suck and have them put on when the warranty is up....i just dont want to have to worry about finding a used set when the time comes.

Since I suck at reading dyno charts, can anyone tell me if there is any indiction of a loss in low end torque after the header install? Being that most of us use our LS4 powered vehicles as a DD, the last thing I want to sacrifice is low end torque.

THanks in advance.

Looks to me like there is a gain. And the LS4 already has trouble hooking up because of too much torque imo.

According to the posted dyno sheet, most of the gains were down VERY low in the power band. It will increase your lowend torque and hp. This is unusual results though. The gains shouldnt have been down low they should have been more uptop where the car is more restricted. Dont get me wrong, gains are gains and it will help a lot when we shift but still its weird.

I had a nice “wrap up” chat with Nick on the phone today…

According to Nick, when their R&D guys were running my car on the dyno after the header install, they were shocked that the car WASN’T making more power than they anticipated. It wasn’t until I had texted Nick with some information about our LS4 cams that they realized what the problem was, and the headers just “amplify” (so to speak) how choked up these motors are with the OEM DOD cam installed in them. I mentioned to Nick that one “hot ticket” might be to go with an LS6 cam which would still be fairly mild mannered yet pass smog and all that, and he agreed that a higher lift cam would do WONDERS with headers (“Dude, you should do it!”)

LS6 Cam Specs (example)
Cam duration: 204 intake / 211 exhaust
Cam Lift: 0.525 intake / 0.525 exhaust
Cam Part No.: 12565308
Type: Hydraulic roller

I can't post the pictures I have of the prototypes that were installed on my car; can William or someone help me out?

it will probably be a good idea to wrap the tube that snakes over the engine compartment to limit the excessive heat soak we already have. is welding an absolute or can it be clamped via slip on tubes? one more question, why is a hoist needed? Thanks

they might have to be welded, I don't think you can fit a clamp there.
Its quicker to install if you have a hoist (4hours) maybe longer without one.

You should do some research on the Lingenfelter GT2-3 cam, it's better than the LS6 cam and still idles stock.
duration @ .050 207/220
lift w/1.7 rocker .571/.578
Lobe separation 118.5

Mongoose, since you probably have an LS4 cam laying on a workbench somewhere, can you take it to a shop and have them check it with a Cam Doctor? I'm sure a lot of us would like to get a definitive word on the cam specs as GOOGLE seems to pull up every LSx motor EXCEPT the LS4.

Any video yet? I wanna hear the difference in sound, if there is one. Hopefully its more of a traditional LSx sound instead of the farm truck sound they gave the LS4.
