For now just drive around in 3rd, Dod is not activated in 1,2,3 only in 4th if conditions are met. I never use it below 80kph/50mph!
And yes you can disable it with the 7191 Predator without a custom tune and you can use it for alot more.

Is possible, DOD is only in 3rd and 4th... I believe the entire spec sheet has been posted somewhere here.

Yes, DOD operates in third. The DOD tables accessible in HPT specifically show that DOD is enabled only in third and fourth gear.
I hadn't thought about this before, but I'll probably disable DOD in third to avoid the helicopter sound when cruising around town at 50-60 kmh. Since the GXP doesn't shift to fourth until 80kmh, will still have DOD for the highway.

Here's a screen shot of the tables
As you can see, it doesn't matter what position the shifter is in. If you're in third of fourth, and the enable/disable parameters such as rpm, vacuum, throttle position... are met, DOD will enable.
If you happen to be scanning the right PIDS, you can see the engine cycle in and out of DOD. It doesn't matter if you have the shifter in drive or if you're in tapshift mode.
Give it up.
