Default Thanksgiving Present!

look at what i got for thanksgiving

1.6 NA roller tips and comp cams 918 beehives with all parts to go with it! i wanna do a cam late winter or so and figured id need a new valve train anyway. i just have afew questions about what ill be doing. i plan on changing out the valve springs with the heads on the car, i know to use the air to keep the valves up but has anyone had any problems doing this or anything similar ? and secondly. im not 100% sure about the guideplates (part # TFS-30400623-8 on summit) they get mounted under the rocker stud ?

I hear you can put a shoe string in as well to keep the valve up, just leave a bit out so you can pull the string back out.

i did my valvetrain with my heads on the car. Do yourself a favor and get new valve seals, there stupid cheap, easy to change and will help with the spring install.

Whatever cylinder your working on, make the piston TDC. Then use your spring tool and take off yuor old springs. Dont worry about dropping a valve, it will just sit on top of the piston and it only drops about 2mm anyways so no worrys at all. Then when you put on the new valve seals it will hold up the valve while you put on the new stuff. Did it to my car so i know first hand it works and its less of a headach then dealing with air crap or string, i even heard of using wood, lol. No need. Hope that helps... And just curious, why didnt you go with full roller rockers as opposed to just stamped with a roller tip?

Here is a picture of right after I installed the guideplates so you can see how they should look/be installed:

Like said above make sure to pick up some valve stem seals as well.

When I did mine I used a compression test hose and just hooked it up to shop air and you couldnt even push the valve down if you wanted to

just use a hose like that and hook it up to your air compressor or what have you and it will hold them up great

it all works, i just dont see the hassle in removing plugs and trying to get hoses into a already tight place when you dont even need to. Makes more work for yourself when you already have your hands full with a complete valvetrain list, lol.

you can also bring the piston up to tdc and the valve shouldn't fall down more than an inch before the piston catches it.

thanks alot guys for all your help! i feel alot better about doing the swap now. stupid me didnt realize about even putting the cylinders at TDC. so ill def be doing that. just gotta hope its there

to Taubr Unit the reason why i got the stamped roller tip vs the full roller is because i put the money into better valve springs. i was going to get the full crane kit. but its out of stock everywhere. theyll do the same jub. maybe alittle more friction but i wanted better valve springs while staying within some kind of budget to not break the bank

and to StealthFormula. thanks for the pic! ive been looking for one just like that. do you remember the part # to your studs ? i have the arp stud kit that says it has the locators for the guide plates but i dont think it does

thanks again for everyone for the help

The part # for the studs I used is ARP 134-7103. I would also suggest ARP Assembly lube for them part# 100-9903.

Looks good! Have fun with the install. Do you have any before dyno or track numbers? I'm curious as to the gains you'll see with the rockers. Good luck getting it all installed!
