Mine did not, it didn't even leak. It made noise for two weeks before it even blew the fuse, to me that was ample warning. That was after 4 years, 3 months and 24,000 miles. The brand was CSI, now CSR.

Now, with an ewp, no longer driven by the cam, can I also switch over to a better timing chain set up? Any recommendations?part#'s, brands, etc. And is it also necessary to block off the hole from where the waterpump gear sprocket was in the block?

with the electric water pump, you lose the pulley, do you have to get a smaller serpentine belt or what. how does that work.

The pump in a lt1 is driven off the cam so there is no pulley belt issue.

So, when we ditch the gear driven water pump, we can use any Gen 1 SBC timing chain? It'd be a hell of a lot better to buy that double roller for $86+shipping, than paying the outrageous prices for LT1 double rollers.

Yes to an extent. You can use ones not made for a hydraulic roller. I just did a search and that one was a common one guys were using on camaroz28.com

I was referring to the mechanical pump going out and giving the opti a bath, not the electric one.

Your options for timing sets increase dramatically. With an EWP you have the option of running any timing set for a 87-up SBC with a hydraulic roller cam.

You'll be fine just swapping in a new stock timing chain. No need to spend the cash on a double roller/heavy duty style.

In addition, some people have reported needing to trim the timing cover to get the double roller chains to fit. I was one of the fortunate ones - no clearancing was necessary for my Cloyes.

Not necessary. Some people have used a freeze plug to block it off while others have left it open. I left it open and have no problems.

I'm put a Cloyes double roller that one guy posted a link to above. There is no need to plug the hole on the block, just plug the hole on the timing chain cover with either a Freeze plug or weld the hole up...
