I would suspect faulty install before blaming the posi.

What leads you to believe the posi may be the cause.

By "burning up" can I guess you mean wear them badly till they howl?

I burned up a R&P at the strip last year and I have a Detroit trutrak. I dont see how the diff had anything to do with it. I blamed it on synthetic oil because the gears were quiet and broke in prior to going to the track.

I have never seen a posi cause a burnt up gear, I have seen a bad posi burn up SPIDER gears.

Usually a gear failure is due to low fluid level or improper setup.

I have also seen gear failure from prolonged topend running. Only in a 12 bolt though for some reason.

I thought about this and the only way I can see a posi ruining gears would be if the ring mating surface were not square to the bearings.

If I suspected that I would put the posi back in without a ring gear and put a dial indicator against it and turn.

Synthetic oil of the proper weight will not harm a ring and pinion it in some cases can make the clutches in a cluytch posi chatter but wont do direct harm to gears.

Far as I know the TruTrack is a gear drive posi no clutches.

This is true, if the ring gear was put on improperly IE not pulled up evenly and was put in a bind with a big enough impact gun the lip could have gotten bent.

But USUALLY it will strip the threads in the ring gear before this happens.

If that were the case it would still come under bad installation not bad parts.

Amazing how guys want to blame good parts for bad workmenship and bad parts get dismissed as bad workmanship.

If it were tightened crooked I would expect to see galling where the bolt pulled against the posi to pull in the gear.

I agree, no one takes the time anymore to inspect, clean or de-bur anything. Out of the box, slap it together then blame the part. It must be bad , hell it aint MY fault LMAO.
