I assume you are refering to a stock bottom end or stock cubed motor. Need more info. A stock bottom end will be short lived at that power level and with stock cubes it wont be very practible for a street machine. Its definitly feasable with a 396 combination with a solid cam and stock castings if the heads are fixed right. The stock castings make a hard to beat set of heads especially for the stock cubed LT1s when fixed right. If its a street/strip car then it shouldnt take 500 RWHP to satisfy your power needs. Not trying to tell you your goal is out of reach, but you did title this thread "Realistic".

Six speed or automatic?

450 to the wheels through and auto is "doable" with stock casting heads, but its hard. 500 to the wheels, VERY hard with any head through an automatic.

Six speed makes it easier to make the power on the dyno, but harder to get down the track.

Fastfatboy if you dont mind me asking about how much did it cost for your motor? I prolly will only have about 3000 to work with but i get 40-60 discount on parts through summit think bout the cc503 or XFI 466 or cc502 which would yield the best horsepower? i do want it more on the low and mid but some more top end too

I agree.

Stock heads wont get you 500rwhp through a stalled A4 no matter how many cubes or which cam you use.

With a nasty cam i think it could be done, but those heads will need serious work.

Not trying to be a dick, but 3000 bux aint gonna buy you the top end of the engine you need to make the power you want. By this I mean heads(complete), intake, throttlebody.

You wanna make 500 to the wheels or even 450 to the wheels through an auto be prepared to spend 10 grand before its all said and done.

It would have to be a RACE CAR. Larry makes 450 with a mild HR cam

Just for example I just recently built my stalled A4 and it ran me in the ball park of 4-5 grand...complete with all the little go together items. I'm putting down about 405rwh with a smaller streetable camshaft and stock AI 200CC heads.

Buy new. Call up AI and talk to Ron or Lloyd Elliott at Elliott's Portworks and explain to them what goals you have in mind for the car and they will point you in the right direction.

500rwhp through an A4 on ported stockers and stock cubes??? I don't see it happening...

Even 400 through a stalled auto with stock cubes takes a lot of planning!!!
