Wow, you've got a lot of room^^

When people say they don't believe in this mod because you'll get hotter air if you're not moving....isn't the ls1 pretty much the same way, basically sitting above the radiator, though not touching it, like some setups here?

here's a pic for nay-sayers.

That one sits higher a bit and is ram air.

Best part of this mod is it cost me a total of about $60 in the end. That's with a brand new filter $60 and slp lid $110 and used ls1 support $30 plus misc parts $10. When I was done I sold my slp cai for $150.

If I really shopped around for a used lid & filter this mod would have cost next to nothing.

I got the same prices, but I kind of give up for now. It's just not bolting in like I thought it would and I've cut way more plastic than I wanted to (haven't cut the radiator support, though if I do, I would re-inforce it by boxing it in with new and existing meal that I cut out). I have a 3" cowl hood that was cut for everything to fit so I thought it would be easy like that guy with the 4" but it's just not working. I can't seem to drop it down anymore and it's still hitting slightly, plus the way I cut it, there's a gap between the lower airbox and the filter/lid. Not sure if that's a big deal, as long as I can seal the filter basket and filter to the lid, I guess, I just think it looks sloppy. But when I use the hold-down hinges, it just pulls it out of the slots that the prongs slide into in the back, is there something supposed to hold it in the rear other than that? I don't get how you're fitting it with the stock hood, because cutting the radiator support just lowers the back, my problem is the front corners, it fits fine in the back towards the throttle body.

I may come back to it later.....are you guys really getting a big SOTP difference?

dude, i kid you not the power caught me off gaurd the first time i took it for a ride. It almost scared me. I bet I picked up 20 horse. I can hear the car vacuuming when i stab the throttle now, the response is just incredible. Ive got the full interior back into my car now, with an amp and sub in the back AND a full tank of gas and i am still not holding traction in 2nd.

Sorry to hear you arent having luck with yours. Have you tried laying the radiator back slightly so the support bolts in slightly further back? You would need to drill new holes in the core support of course.

no, I was trying to use the existing threads, I'll have to lay the radiator back and then it is almost certain to work. Problem is, I'll have to cap off my WP heater hoses really well because right now they are in the way ( I have them looped into each other). I'm not sure what to use but I'll do that. And how about the lid prongs slipping out in the rear when the hinges are used, that happening to anyone else?

Yea, I got disheartened, but I'll be back for another round, I've been convinced again.

Yea i hear ya man. Mine is quite snug in that area also and although my hood closes it is still hitting something. Ive dabbed grease on practically everything and i cant find what is hitting. Im not too worried about it though. It was well worth the work.

One trick I used to get the lid to fit under the hood the way I did mine was to use two large black zip ties to connect the back of the plastic rad support to the radiator. Drilled two small holes in the lip at the top of the rad and holes in the support right above it. I cinched them down real tight to connect the two. It picked up a good 1/2" of clearence under the hood. The top of the lid right behind the bellow connector just hits the hood when shut. I will say this wasn't the easiest of mods I've done. Even using joelius' guide it still took me a lot of on and off fitting and trimming to make it all fit. Definitely worth all the work in the end though to me. The gains were really noticable and I think it looks way cool

heres some video i took today. The extra weight of the passenger, full gas tank, and system helped traction quite a bit but slowed me down some up top. But as you can see traction was still hard to come by...

Joelius do you have any pictures of the underside of your hood? I have an SS hood to put on my car, and I'm not wild about cutting it, and I would like to see how much cutting you had to do to your hood. Thanks

Have you ran or dyno-ed your car yet? I am very interested in seeing what type of gains a lid would provide. Im sure lots of others would like to see the results as well.

i just finished my lid on my car and even though it looks alittle rough... there is no denying the difference it makes on the top end performance. he isnt kidding about it pulling harder in 3rd and 4th above 4500 rpm. i would say that it isnt an easy mod though. i hated trimming or cutting on my car but the way it pulls is just amazing. watch out for your ac hose though. accidentally cracked mine and now i have to recharge mine.
